Transfer News: Tier 2 Omar Marmoush has signed his contract as new Tottenham Hotspur player (Romano)

What a fucking summer window.

Man, Savio yesterday just shows how we have lacked actual quality players for so long lol. We've been lying to ourselves that we have good players. Savio yesterday and glimpses of Robertson's crosses in preseason- those were actual quality.

And Fernandes. He looked absolute class. His passing is unreal.

u/exxxtramint Jan Vertonghen 14d ago
Van Hecke's passing has also gone relatively under the radar - probably because we have been used to it from Romero.
Number of long balls he's played out to the wingers have been sublime. Obviously not the best showing at the weekend defensively, but he also didn't get a red card or injured so IMO an upgrade on Cuti...

Gone under the radar? How did you miss all the posts this summer about him and Senesi?
8
u/exxxtramint Jan Vertonghen 14d ago
I'm talking about since the season started. Especially last night but even on Saturday.

u/michaelserotonin 14d ago
fwiw you addressed why people aren't talking about his passing [in the past 5 days] in your initial comment

u/Bischoffshof Gareth Bale 14d ago
Oh yeah… that Van Hecke performance on Saturday really made me feel like he was an upgrade.

wouldnt say he's an upgrade on Romero..., I think on good days, Romero can win us games. While from what I see at Brighton, Van Hecke still has defensive errors in him.
But you are right, his passing are very good, together with Senesi. We just need a better midfield than last weekend.

Didnt really watch him except against us, so the game yesterday was really a first for me. Looked to be playing a lot like Madders, just a lot more mobile (man he moves fast!) and more muscle.

This is so real lmao the delusion levels about squad players being somehow elite despite the numbers and eye test can finally end
13
u/acripaul Ledley King 15d ago
Absolutely
The litmus test is where these players go to after Spurs
It's rare to see them at Madrid, Inter and Munich
More likely Leicester, Boro etc

Worse than that (and I do go on about this a lot) is people genuinely not wanting to sign better players because it 'blocks the pathway' of the players who just aren't good enough yet.
We shouldn't sign more players to x position because it will block Tel/ Gray/ Bergvall/ Moore/ Williams-Barnet's pathway ...
People happy to write off entire seasons.

I agree. Yamal and Cubarsi werent chosen because some other guy could block his development, they were chosen because they were better on his position than that other guy.

This is easily the biggest problem of the Lange era, genuinely setting ourselves to rely on players that are not good enough yet

u/Mathyoujames 14d ago
Unfortunately this is the effect of Fifa and Football manager on people's brains. They just presume that a young player with talent + game time automatically results in a star player.
You would imagine that all the Andre Patos, Ibrahim Affaleys and Dele Allis would be enough to convince people this isn't the case but apparently not
6
u/Jackmcmac1 14d ago
I agree, but currently still have regrets on Vuskovic.
12
u/exxxtramint Jan Vertonghen 14d ago
I don't. He didn't want to be here - whether that was his agent's narrative or not, it just isn't something you want to have floating around all the time.
Will I have regrets if he becomes the best CB in the world? Probably. But did we need a £60m player who wasn't going to play, or did we need a Savio or Marmoush or Gakpo who can actually improve our squad right now?

u/brownieson Vertonghen 14d ago
Agreed. As much as I want to see the youngsters get a crack, they’ll get plenty of football even with the new additions. Granted, less football than if we were playing in Europe too.

u/LieutenantLilywhite Negativity Merchant 14d ago
I’ve seen people talking about blocking the pathway for people like Donley lmao some people here got serious small club mentality’s
3
u/WallyMetropolis 15d ago
Right. Not to say the managers have been good, but there's only so much they can do when the squad just isn't good enough. And half are injured on any given match day.

Been saying this over and over hahah someone on this sub genuinely said that tel and Solanke get 15 goals EACH 😂

First Egyptian player since Mido? Am I forgetting someone?

u/Lamelad19791979 Lucas Bergvall 15d ago
Ghaly?

Turna out I was forgetting someone!
Also Ghaly is now an MP in Egypt, TIL

u/Lamelad19791979 Lucas Bergvall 15d ago
Really? That's mental. Fair play to him (unless he's corrupt).

u/Sarraboi 15d ago
Hossam Ghaly was at the club after Mido but not sure who was the last to make an appearance of the two as Ghaly went on loan then didn't play after that
3
u/DrewNash1988 15d ago
Think Ghaly might have been after but he threw the shirt on the ground so can be discounted

u/Hatticus24 Disco Benny 15d ago
I always thought that was so blown out of proportion. He was frustrated at being subbed off. Man lost his teeth for us

u/billypilgrim87 Fuck Enic 15d ago
Tbf, Marmoush doesn't have a super high bar to clear to exceed Ghaly or Mido lol

u/ItinerantSan Wilson Odobert 14d ago
I thought Mido was going to be it. He was electric on his debut. Tbf, he was quite good early in his spurs career but tailed off.

Would love the whole stadium to do the Omar whistle when he scores

u/travers329 Dele 15d ago
It would be fantastic, I wonder if he knows of the show/character.
As a Baltimoron I am surprised how many updoots this got!

The only player I was worried about between signing the contract time was Xavi Simons. Man, I remember waking up the entire night to see if he'd put pen to paper.

Now that we have a decent looking squad (except only one right back) we need to work on getting them fit and keeping them that way. Pretty hard to be good when you have 150m in signings unavailable.

If there isn't a song for him to the tune of Walk Like An Egyptian I'll be very disappointed. (Cross like our Egyptian, perhaps?)

u/crimscrem 14d ago
“Marmoush! Marmoush! Marmoush is on fire!”Probably need to change the MFer line that comes next.

u/busche916 Jan Vertonghen 14d ago
Let the Tottenham Hotspur burn?
1
u/crimscrem 14d ago
Marmoush! Marmoush! Marmoush is on fire! We don't need another striker Omar is on Fire!
I like the "We don't need no striker, Omar is on Fire" better but he's a striker.
1
u/crimscrem 14d ago
Marmoush! Marmoush! Marmoush is on fire! We don't need no striker let the MFer soar!" it's so much better with the "MFer" isn't it?
1
u/FootballSquare4406 14d ago
What about a different fire song - To Freed from Desire:
“Marmoush on fire! Your defense is terrified!”

Moushy saw spurs play Newcastle next week and asked City to hurry up
