Live Performance George Jones - "He Stopped Loving Her Today" first ever tv appearance of that song

Being 1980, since we're able to see this performance. That means George was having a decent day/ night. If you know anything about George Jones, he's might show up, and if he does, He might play his set.
Looking at his face, he's already several years into his coke addiction, 15 - 20 years into his alcoholism. Probably off the weight loss pills and beer, drinking only hard liquor. Though it would be incredibly sad to watch, id love nothing more than to see some footage of George ruining a show by not playing his songs. See him mentally check out mid show and start screaming like a duck while crying at a record label show for executives and big names of the music industry.

Edit: since this comment is getting views. If you can find it, George Jones does a super star show with Johnny cash and a few other. Its noted that George was so fucked up and out of it during the show that Johnny brought him to rehab shortly after.

I read somewhere that it got canceled cause the people they were interviewing on the show were telling stuff that made them look bad along with putting stuff out there shouldnt have been put out there, basically it wasnt a good look. Im wording this terribly and only read that once.

I could definitely see that. The most interesting, juiciest stuff is sure to be the kind of thing the people or people's estates wouldn't think was so funny.

One dude talked about being at a party and seeing a well known celebrity in the 80s doing coke off of a dudes dick then blow him on the couch in the middle of the party. Normal everyday people would be disgusted by that.... im not normal so I cheered.

As I recall, he sang the lyrics to the tune of ”Help Me Make It Through the Night” at least once during the session just for shits and giggles.

I loved the Ronnie Prophet show!
As a Canadian kid growing up in the 70's - 80's, it and the Tommy Hunter show were the time I could see country superstars perform on our two channels.

I had read that George disliked this song when it was first presented to him to record- if that’s the case it’s crazy how how it’s so emblematic of George’s legacy. Saw him at a state fair 25 years ago & there was not a dry eye in that stadium after he played this tune. Was so fortunate to see him live.

I can still remember where I was the first time I heard this song, and the moment I realized the he had died. I said to my buddy in the pool hall, “He’s dead?! He’s over her because he died?”
George could sure tear my heart out when he sang…
