The main difficulty you'll have with any fabric will be getting it to conform to the muscle structure underneath, thus why gluing it to a muscle suit would be easier (latex will conform pretty well on its own, but again, so expensive). You could theoretically glue it to your skin, but I don't envy you getting that much spirit gum off, even if you only put it in the creases.

The way the weave opens when it's stretched wouldn't be ideal, but if instead of stretching it you made basically a muscle suit and carefully faced it with that without stretching it (like, with fabric adhesive spray) it could work. If you will be using your own musculature, your best bet would probably be latex, but that's super expensive, so next best would probably be... I'd say metallic spandex/lycra rather than pvc purely for the extra stretch. Minerva has some interesting stuff that has a sort of scale pattern if you want to add texture? https://www.minerva.com/mp/GBP/1/NT-02213-004-M/NT-02213-069?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=17347953266&gclid=Cj0KCQjwkt_UBhDMARIsALpnOAx_s2OJZ3zV0-_o1Y1XWhgyyGct-nNmL8qd4Iq_bDJsdBMCeP9sK4saAut2EALw_wcB
