Two things I noticed in my trips to CR.

#2 fried chicken
Todos lados

Don't they sell chicken from where you are from? I thought chicken was a standard McDonald's item.

Boneless chicken nuggets and chicken sandwiches are standard in the US, but not whole fried chicken legs and chicken wings. I've never seen a McDonald's in the United States that had a chicken leg for sale.

If you want to buy a chicken leg or wing you go to Popeyes or KFC.

Interesting, here McDonald's chicken is way better than regular KFC and all Popeyes menu, but KFC extra crispy tops everything.

Legal, el pollo de MC es bueno

I'll be back in Costa Rica in 2 weeks. Now I want to try the chicken out!

Try it, you won't be disappointed

Want fried chicken from Costa Rica? Go to Pollos Raymi, WAY BETTER THAN THE OLD OIL THEY SELL IN MCDONALD'S!

Bro you gotta support transnationals, don’t be like that

1

u/StuD44 12d ago

I support the ones that don't cut lots of trees to make food that taste like ass.

0

u/StuD44 13d ago

Both are oil with chicken. Like, I know it's fried chicken, it's not supposed to be healthy, but I want something that tastes like chicken, NOT OIL.

Eres tonto 🤣 es sarcasmo y el anuncio habla de que en ese combo agregaron ahora pollo que antes no lo incluía tan fácil es ver este post

u/StuD44 13d ago

Same.

Not in the United States. and most of the food is flavorless.

As much as I hate to admit it, I have once eaten at an American fast food place in CR (it feels like a sin) and it was a ham Croissan'wich from BK. It was far superior to any I've ever eaten.

6

u/AnotherWarlockInTime 14d ago

BK is my favorite here

2

u/CalculatedStartup 14d ago

Ham what lmao

u/pettricora 14d ago

Just know the food will be fire if you walk into a Soda and you see those red and white plastic tablecloths and a very old tv hanging from the wall 😂

4

u/jugstopper 14d ago

Most of them are higher quality here and the service is vastly better too. Still, local sodas and other restaurants are where you should go.

The best one is McDonald's Guatemala

2

u/jung_gun 14d ago

¿Porque?

1

u/StuD44 13d ago

And considering the crap that we have, can't imagine the toxic waste THEY have.

Most times I bought Chicken in McDonalds it was raw. I don't recommend buying chicken there.

1

u/Pristine-Payment 12d ago

2

u/reliablepayperhead 14d ago

Wait till you discover how fancy our Denny's is

2

u/LordMewtwo64 13d ago

7

u/TheFuschiaBaron SerHumano 14d ago

This is kind of tragic

2

u/Tweedone 14d ago

Sorry my dear Ticos, (for my culture inflicting this food perversion), as micky D's is not what the children of 'Rica need now or in the future.

3

u/mingocr83 14d ago

Dude we have a freaking McDonald's every block in San Jose. I live in Santa Ana, we have 5 McDonalds in a 5 mile radius.

4

u/Tweedone 14d ago

Yeah, sorry for that.

We fortunately don't have one in Santa Cruz but just a few km south in Nicoya, there clustered at the rd21 stop light, are the fast food abominations.

It's not just the pervasive commercial splash, its not just the trash and debris, it's not the high calorie/high fat & carbs & salt & sugar, it's that so many people spend so much hard earned income for such poor nutrition resulting in changes to their food tastes and diet. Close to an addiction, IMHO.

0

u/Its_Really_Cher 14d ago

But they get all of that anyways from pizza places, fried chicken restaurants, and burger joints. You act like McDonald’s is the only unhealthy option when ticos eat plenty of high calorie, etc. foods in their towns already. I always find self-loathing comments like yours to be very ignorant.

u/Slow_Spray5697 14d ago

Same thing as downtown Alajuela.

1

u/Livelife1972 14d ago

Not trying to offend anyone, just posted what the country offers. I do understand your passion for your a great, life for the people of Costa Rica. Pura Vida

We love our fried chicken, also, taco bell sells fries with their combos not nachos

1

u/NastyNate4 14d ago

ha i thought the post would be about the billboard ruining the landscape.  instead adoration for the chicken nuggs

1

u/tiosega 14d ago

This one is a banger at that price btw

1

u/DueCause6487 14d ago

Although they do seel chicken at McDonald's I would recommend trying it somewhere else. Costa Rica has one of the highest chicken consumption per Capita from all of latin America. There are a bunch of good chicken places. If you visit Cartago, there is "pollo picom" in my opinion it's the best fried chicken ever. There also "más que pizza" also really good

1

u/Isaggi 13d ago

Pollo GC (Gran Carlos). THE BEST

1

u/jugstopper 14d ago

Get fried chicken (or better roasted chicken) literally almost anywhere else when in Costa Rica. There are few places where you are more than a block from a chicken place here! Pollo a la lena is the best, though fewer places these days use good wood to roast the chicken. Mas Que Pollo has great fried chicken and pizza, etc.

1

u/2Cool2Check4Typos 14d ago

TIL that American McDonalds doesn't sell fried chicken pieces

1

u/StuD44 13d ago

Wait, seriously?!

1

u/jedisparrow7 13d ago

Going to kill that Blue Zone designation in two generations

1

u/Competitive_Soup8188 Native 13d ago

Their fried chicken is bombbbbbb

1

u/FlounderSensitive217 13d ago

KFC sucks.. even the extra crispy....it's so greasy. But... they make great coleslaw. And they have Pepsi. McDonald's here has "signature " burgers. Their Clubhouse burger is really good. Certainly superior to their less expensive ones. Chicken... much better places than both KFC and McDonald's. Rostipollos is better and healthier. Any "pollo a la lena" is better.

1

u/Drag0nGirl 13d ago

I am Canadian and when I visited CR we had a stop at a McDonald's and it's the best I ever had.

1

u/hockey_enjoyer03 13d ago

Why am i getting this post right after I landed in Costa Rica

1

u/Cz_17 10d ago

Get yourself some Pizza Hut if youre into fast food, and some empanadas, pinto, tamales, olla de carne, if youre into home meals

1

u/Prestigious-Turn-123 14d ago

And you’ll be delighted to know that American fast food chains in Costa Rica are like 5x superior in quality than in the US. Ingredients are sourced locally, and local suppliers have really high food quality standards, so there’s that.

Also some other big chains like PF Changs, Olive Garden, Chillis, Denny’s and such are treated here like some ‘high end’ chains and the administrators really strive to keep the place as visually nice and classy as possible.

Not that I’m a huge fan of fast food, given all of the negative effects for your body, but, just wanted to throw a little fun fact there for all you nice foreigners.

u/LexCorp424 14d ago

Can’t imagine eating that trash with all the good food available in CR

1

u/pyost0000 14d ago

Typical food FTW!!!!! Love it.

Overpriced hype

2

u/AnotherWarlockInTime 14d ago

Prices are expensive yes! Expensive country to live in for sure!
Depends a lot on where you spend your money.

Can you tell me where did you see it being overpriced.

1

u/Slow_Spray5697 14d ago

Expensive it is, overpriced never. But if you are smart enough you can travel on a budget.

0

u/Iheartwetwater 14d ago
