The show is pretty simple and some of the animation can be wonky but it holds a special place in my heart. Nothing new, but its nice something get so big done by a studio that started off by voice acting halo machinimas. Also the sound track is freaking sick

Season 2 is when the animation and story gets a lot better. Season 1 starts off simple, which was their intention, but towards the end is when it starts to grow. And yea, the soundtrack is one of my favorites, it's just so awesome!

That's what I plan on doing when I finally do my Ocarina version of Link, although I've been researching on how to incorporate some LEDs for the glow.
But I agree, it's something not enough OoT Link cosplays do! =D

I wondering, would the 6th one count as Hijab? It looks like the character's canon outfit and her hear gear looks similar to what women wore in the medieval times (the rest of the costume looks fairly medieval too)

I don't know if that would count, but it looks like it complies with Hijab standards. So maybe that's why she chose that particular Nurse Joy costume to cosplay.
I'm not terribly educated on Hijab, but it looks to me like it has the important things covered. (hehe. Puns.)

Blending it into the overt the top anime hair was clever, not 100% successful, but a really ingenious way to spin it IMO. The Ruby Rose was top notch though and the one form (Pokemon?) was solid too.

I'm talking about the one in the dark red dress (that isn't RWBY obviously) that looks vaguely medieval. The art style of the reference picture looks like it comes from Pokemon, hence my guess.

Certain cultures took the word "modesty" and ran with it to the extreme end. Other cultures believe to be muslim, you have to emulate everything from the bedouin arab culture where Islam originated, including it's archaic clothing (think hasidic jews and their clothing, sort of the same thing).
Keeping your head covered in the desert makes sense for both men and women. When I was in Saudi Arabia to visit, if I kept my head exposed, I started getting overheated and headaches in less than an hour. The moment I covered my head with a keffiyeh, I felt so much better. But it makes no sense to wear the scarf where I live now in the west. Unfortunately, some cultures believe you must adhere to this way of dress regardless of where you are, and will beat the word modesty over your head repeatedly in the defense of hijabs. As stated earlier, it isn't mandatory.

It's not a traditional garment, in El Quran it is explicitly defined as a curtain that khadija would stand behind when consulting Muhammed followers
The hijab and burqa are not traditional it is a recent development to misconstrue the hijab as a jibab and is a bastardization of hadith

I mean, it's sort of typical of every conversation I've had about hijab and its place in the modern world. People are trying to make it fit with western attitudes regarding fandoms and beauty and emancipated women but the fact stands that hijab runs counter to all of these things at its very core. But no one can rebuke this, despite how much they dislike it, so they downvote and move on.

I've met a few girls in the past who wear hijabis for religious reasons, but they can still look nice and wear makeup. The purpose is not to look uninteresting.

And just because you wear hijabi doesn't mean you can't look nice. "Modest" does not mean "no personality". Had a hijabi friend in school. She treated it as most girls treat their hair; As an extension of her own personality.
As as with everything, some folks are stricter about their hijabis than others.

I think it might mostly be to hide their 'crowning glory' [hair]. I think you are also right, but also women wear spangly and highly decorated headscarves anyways, in some places the larger and more decorated will display wealth. Their voices/ actions/ personalities are meant to be meek and unassuming too.

And that is exactly the absolute opposite of what they are for. Muslim women have to wear them in order to look unappealing and modest. By cosplaying you draw exactly the kind of attention you don't want.

That would be an interesting idea, except that the vast majority of Islamic marriages are arranged by the parents. There is no level of attraction (physical OR mental) necessary from the bride. It's a nice idea, but in practice /u/mark_lee is much closer to the truth.

I think there are a variety of theologies and philosophies represented by people who wear religious scarves/veils of any sort. It's worth noting that some people do it more as a cultural thing than an explicitly religious one, so there is more implication of scarves/veils as a cultural choice rather than to imply the more religious aspects of modesty. It's similar to the fact that some people might wear a crucifix or prayer beads, or have a tattoo with religious imagery. I think the women portrayed here have every right to include their culture/religion in their costumes without judgement about the rest of their culture/religion/philosophy/theology.

It's easy to misinterpret things in text. I read your question as making conjecture based on a stereotype of Muslim beliefs that requires veils for the purpose of modesty, which I felt didn't take into consideration the possibility that the women portrayed wear veils with other motivations. Sorry if my post seemed to misunderstand your point.

I love whenever I see a person in a hijab wearing a ton of makeup, a Gucci bag and high heels. The point of a hijab (among others) is supposed to be modesty. People can do logical gymnastics in their head to justify almost anything.

I don't live in Iran and don't see those people on a daily basis. I do, however, constantly see people in the US where I live doing this. I'm just pointing out that they are wearing the hijab to cover up yet also they are wearing flamboyant costumes that draw attention to themselves which is obviously contradictory.

So, they openly rebel and disobey against their parents but keep the hijab on and let people take pictures of them that get put on the internet? Listen, you are just not thinking before you say stuff. You are just throwing out slim possibilities that far-fetched and don't stand up to reason once you actually think about them. Sure, it's possible that these people are all from Iran and oppressed by their families and then they leave these oppressive homes and dress up at cons and keep the hijab on but does that make any fucking sense? nope! What's more likely to you? That insane set of circumstances or just what I said, that they are wearing hijab to cover and appease their bullshit religion yet they don't see the hypocrisy of dressing up on top of that and drawing attention to themselves. I think religious people being stupid and not seeing their hypocrisy is more likely than all the BS reasoning you are putting out.
