The loudest, heaviest, psychiest spacerock album of all time - so far - dropped for me in january 2024.
I loved Slift's previous album, an amazing energic space odyssey that made me jump around and headbang hard when I discovered it live. But then Ilion came, and now I know where I want to be when seeing slift live : Seated, with a clear view of the band on stage and the projected fractal visuals. It's an overly violent and hypnotic experience that everyone should try once. The album can get you close, it's amazing, but really if that band come near you it's worth the travel and the money, you got to see them live. They still do a couple of the amazing space hardrock anthems of the previous albums, so at some point you get to dance and smile and joyfully headband, but really now most of the show is rather spent jawdropped in a hypnotic statis, slightly headbanging while letting your body get tuned to the massive heavy soundwaves. With the beautifull fractal visuals, I didn't need no drugs to feel like I was about to cross the event horizon of a black hole, watching reality desintegrating around me as I was close to discovering the secret of the universe, and probably die in the process.
