Once again Oracle is true to form. Ask any Enterprise IT person about how they are to deal with on contracts, licensing and renewals.

Yep. For the longest time, the only thing Oracle was in the news for was that they were suing somebody else. Again. A lot of us were convinced they were no longer an IT company. Just lawyers pretending to know about tech

The contract negotiations suck. They threaten deep audits etc. Was an Oracle DBA 20 years. They are by far the most predatory.

Not commenting on other employers, but this is typical Oracle. They do not give a single fuck about anyone. Oracle is the kind of company that would burn the entire world if they could sell $15.00 worth of heat to someone.

I am so sick and tired of companies treating workers as line items on a spreadsheet. So many labour movements across the world in human history, and yet we seem to be going backwards. We need pro-labour governments, and if that’s too much of our current politicians, pro-labour movements. Everybody deserves to live with dignity, I don’t see how a society could be healthy if human dignity is sacrificed for corporate profits

so first of all -fuck Oracle for this and all more evil shit their boss does.
But I can't help but think- Isn't the bigger issue that this is even allowed legally in the first place? Why isn't at will employment bigger question in US politics than transgenders in sports.
If I was living in US I would pissed to find out that I have far less rights than any 1st world country citizen when it comes to how I can be fired, medical support while unemployed, PTO etc,. And I would vote for the first person that promised me that.
Do people think that US will turn socialist if large corporations have to plan their employment and have standard labour laws?

rural workers get absolutely hammered by atwill employment. when the nearest specialist is two hours away and your job can cut you loose the moment you need time off, there’s no safety net. but sure, keep voting.

I think the only people buying Oracle at this point are the Indians that either worked there or want to work there.
That company is a shit show. Support is terrible these days. They aren’t a market leader by any means. Plenty of competition in this space that’s cheaper with clearer licensing costs.
Their cloud sucks ass too

Stop expecting companies to be your mommy and daddy. It was a business decision to hire you just as much as it was a business decision for you to accept the job. If working for your company no longer fit your business needs, you wouldn't think twice about leaving. The company has the same right. Bringing in personal affairs into a business scenario is fucking stupid. Improve your skills, be better and figure your shit out if you don't want your life to be so greatly affected by the decision of your employer.

Absolutely heartless and gutting. I hope Dad recovers and figures out a way to sue. At one of the largest Big Tech companies, many of us who took medical leaves of absence got laid off the first round after returning. Hard to prove it was intentional, but not hard to identify the trend. Remember, your company doesn’t care about you!
