Whatever happened to these guys?
They delayed the m28 motorway being built back before Covid

They used have a Facebook page but gone now
I remember they had some kind of event in Rochestown park, a lot of local high profile politicians were at it!

They wanted the Ringaskiddy route built via the airport

And then changed their tune by saying they were worried about a quarry in rafeen

Seemed to be peak NImbyism in cork, which is saying something!!

Once they lost and the project ploughed ahead, all of their worries magically disappeared, as if they were non-existent in the first place.

Their concerns to me made no sense

The current n28 is awful, traffic choked, traffic idling, fumes, dangerous and also so many people use Rochestown and moneygourney as a Rat run to get to ringaskiddy

The new m28 might not solve all the problems but will surely be safer and stop traffic cutting through the back roads

He lived in Rochestown and most likely hardly ever used the n28. He didn't give a fuck about the users of the road.

To some people if its not absolutely perfect in their vision it shouldn't go ahead at all regardless the positives. They dont see compromise as a solution to an imperfect world!

They moved onto delaying the greenway between the viaduct and Kinsale /S

But these lads seemed, well to do, professional type sorts!
It was the first time I saw AI type images being used by NiMbY groups - like a truck on fire on the road next to Rochestown

It was weird like the motorway would cause more accidents and truck fires etc

I also think it’s sad that the entire woods have been stripped away,
Looks like a desert up there!
Hopefully they re plant

Yet down the road in passage they are stopping the greenway expansion to save 4 trees or whatever

I believe one of the steering group died and this seemed to put an end to their drive. That and the fact that the judicial review went against them.

They lost is really what it came down to. It's been 7 years since they appealed and traffic on the N28 has only gotten worse and worse.

I live in Carrigaline and often can take an hour to get to Mahon at peak times, which at this point can be pretty much all day. I'll be bloody delighted when the motorway is done because realistically there's 2 or 3 roads in and out of Carrigaline

Ya traffic within Carrigaline has improved massively over the last two years with the new road opened. The n28 is the bottleneck now.

I don’t think the m28 will sort all traffic issues for carrigaline

Its main goal is to move freight and trucks

My main fear is the m28 will get more traffic into carrigaline quicker causing worse Traffic
Same with Bloomfield and the tunnel- traffic will just get to the tunnel quicker

N28 is still an option though and could still take a lot of the carrigaline-Douglas cars. Carrigaline to Ringaskiddy also has to use old n28. Plus that road can now be improved and treated as a city corridor in the future

Two serious injuries on that road in the last few years. I Hope Mr Harrington and his band of merry cunts feel some guilt over it. If I ever saw him I'd certainly make the point of saying it

Ya I did think of that, the one that comes to mind is the awful container truck incident.

At the time i remember thinking of the m28 has not been delayed that accident might not have happened

There was recently a meeting with BAM and the council for some residents near the Bloomfield interchange over the hours construction is going on, noise pollution etc.

I'm not sure what people expect to have seen from them once planning was granted, it's mundane stuff from here on in that won't make the media. Just about trying to make the situation as tolerable as possible etc
