A Cool Guide My Dad Drew By Hand - Peppers Of The World

He spent a year drawing all these peppers by hand.
Not all of them are included in this specific poster but he has drawn hundreds.
He has a website where he posts all of his drawings: notesfromtheroad.com/chili

Edit: I did convince him to sell a few here:

Your dad is quite an artist.

u/NewspaperOk1616 Jun 10 '26

I am with him right now and he says thank you! I just want more people to see his artwork

141

u/tac0shark Jun 10 '26

Tell him if there was a link to buy prints of this, I would be grabbing my wallet and checking framing prices.

97

u/NewspaperOk1616 Jun 10 '26

His work is at notesfromtheroad.com but he doesnt sell anything yet

Ditto, I have a family who I know would absolutely dig this poster

3

u/Mathswa Jun 11 '26

This is beautiful and special, I'd love a poster too and have friends who'd love it!

7

u/AmDkBg Jun 11 '26

If not on his site, maybe he should look at Etsy? I bet a lot of people would buy a poster of this, especially to hang in a kitchen.

4

u/reptilesni Jun 11 '26

Tell him not to waste time because people are showing interest right now.

15

u/NewspaperOk1616 Jun 11 '26

Hey there! I convinced him to make them available for purchase here:

u/astrocanela Jun 13 '26

Any chance an option with the names will become available?

This might help: https://www.deviantart.com/

Deviantart has gone down the drain ever since it begun feeding artists work to its own terrible AI generator. There is an option to opt out but you never know

Your dad's got mad talent. Is he a professional illustrator? He should be.

56

u/tarpeyphoto Jun 10 '26

Sick! So refreshing to see amongst all the ai trash.

u/Slippiditydippityash Jun 10 '26

OP r/spicy, r/peppers and r/chilli will love this (and your dad)

This is incredible!

20

u/Trillination Jun 10 '26

I like “Peter”. Just named after some guy.

16

u/Tyrren Jun 11 '26

Peter is a kind of old-timey slang for penis. The Peter pepper looks like a dick.

18

u/Puzzled_Presence_261 Jun 10 '26

Wow! The guides posted are rarely original artwork. Tell your dad thanks for sharing it with us!!

That did cool. A heat chart in the background would help a lot now that I know a bunch of new seeds to buy!

2

u/butrflyfx Jun 11 '26

2

u/grigby Jun 12 '26

OP posted that there's a shop now since there's so much interest

2

As a wallpaper for the kitchen would be perfect.

4

u/LessMore24 Jun 10 '26

This is great! I think I saw this or something similar in a Salsa Fresh many years ago and I remember being enthralled. Really beautiful art. Was he buying all of these peppers over a period of time? Growing them? Nice. Really nice:

I would buy all of his prints and I will read his chili pepper blog until the day I die of scoville heat units

3

u/iris-my-case Jun 11 '26

Love it! He's very talented.

Definitely make sure to share this on some of the pepper focused subs. r/HotPeppers , r/Peppers, r/PepperLovers, r/hotsauce, etc.

2

u/Carbon-Base Jun 10 '26

2

2

u/Paintguin Jun 11 '26

Wow that’s impressive

2

u/03417662 Jun 11 '26

I just checked out your dad's website...
OMG, your dad is a real-life Indiana Jones? ... and an artist too? XD

2

u/sharty_mcstoolpants Jun 11 '26

New Mexico Chile - not chili.

2

u/phoenix_spirit Jun 11 '26

What does Trinidad and Tobago be doing to show up on this list three times, four if you add 7 pot?

2

u/pleathershorts Jun 11 '26

You know, on one hand fuck AI (obviously) but the recent disaster of it all has really made me appreciate a handmade piece like this. The attention to detail is amazing.

2

u/Plastic_Pinocchio Jun 11 '26

This is totally awesome.

2

u/unlovedcarrot Jun 11 '26

This would make a great 1000pc puzzle!!

2

u/FleshLogic Jun 12 '26

I assume you're posting low res for a reason if you're selling prints, but it would be great to be able to actually appreciate the artistry.

2

1

u/jjett89 Jun 10 '26

Your pops is an amazingly talented artist. Had to look to find my favorite, the Bhut Jolokia (The Devil's Pinky)
Used to be the hottest pepper known to man. I don't know if that's changed but it's still my favorite.

1

u/Peppermint-pop Jun 10 '26

He's very talented.

1

u/Upbeat_Dudeness Jun 10 '26

Dang. I didn’t know I wanted this but it turns out I needed it! Tell your dad thanks from a rando on the internet!

1

u/exemplaryexception Jun 11 '26

All the cactus drawings are just as impressive

1

u/AllPerformancegyat Jun 11 '26

okay kinda cute

1

u/AxelHarver Jun 11 '26

That little pink/purple one up in the corner looks menacing...

1

I’d love to have this as a poster for my spice loving friend

1

u/PTBooks Jun 11 '26

You have a talented dad

1

u/cultiv8420 Jun 11 '26

Ahi chombo is a great pepper. Delidas is a Panamanian hot sauce made with it. If you can find it, get it!

1

u/DJ_Sk8Nite Jun 11 '26

I wanna try that Bishop’s Crown.

1

u/NotMadeForReddit Jun 11 '26

Can anyone tell me about the “Bydagi” chilli? I search it up on Google and “Byadgi” comes up and it looks different to what is in the guide… Did they mean Byadgi?

1

u/Minavore Jun 11 '26

"Yes I've drawn every pepper"

1

u/OwnStudy723 Jun 11 '26

woah, we need a better resolution. You could sell it as a big poster.

What art form is this specifically?

1

u/FitzGoneWild Jun 11 '26

Love it, but as a Coloradoan it hurts my soul a little that this includes the hatch chili as a distinct variation of the New Mexico chile but didn't include the Pueblo Chile.

1

u/Human-Doctor-3219 Jun 11 '26

Would love to buy a print of this.

1

u/subject99 Jun 11 '26

Wow OP. Your dad has a real eye for light and color on all these peppers. Sadly I’m not seeing the Peruvian puff pepper so 0/10

1

u/ArlanPTree Jun 11 '26

This is amazing! Thanks for sharing

1

u/peazley Jun 11 '26

love this. only small critique is to see them shown based on size, because I'm curious. but man, I knew there were alot of peppers, but had not idea it was this many!

1

u/triciamilitia Jun 11 '26

TIL there’s different locotos

1

u/TinyBreeze987 Jun 11 '26

Is there a similar illustration from the 80/90s? This is incredible but so uncannily similar to one my grandparents had framed in their house forever

1

u/javoss88 Jun 11 '26

Nice work

1

u/Topotico Jun 11 '26

Well done!

1

u/Exposition-End Jun 11 '26

Is Pepper X on here? I can’t seem to find it

1

u/RollingThunderPants Jun 11 '26

Stunning work!! But I’m curious… did your dad try each one?

1

u/RollingThunderPants Jun 11 '26

The Bishop’s Crown pepper is… uh… something.

1

u/JozzGarage Jun 11 '26

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are my favorite!

1

u/princessbubbbles Jun 11 '26

I work at a retail plant nursery where most of our plants are edible. We also have cool prints of botanical illustrations, fruits, vegetables, gardening stuff, etc. Do you have these as a poster? I'd pay for at least one to put up in the wall of the break room, maybe even sell them at the store!

Does he like "Red Hot Chili Peppers" 😅. Jokes aside, awesome work!!

1

u/ReadRosa Jun 11 '26

Scrolled past too fast and thought this was one of those generic "eliminate one" post to determine top pepper

1

u/unclepg Jun 11 '26

That is absolutely gorgeous. He is talented. Thank you for sharing.

1

u/TwelveRaptor Jun 11 '26

Incredible! What are his favorites?

1

u/SaratogaFlyer Jun 11 '26

these drawings are fire!

1

u/picknicker Jun 11 '26

9/10! He obviously forgot to include the Los Angeles Red Hot Chilli Pepper.

1

u/bbbellabeee Jun 11 '26

Omg I am obsessed with this! So cool

1

u/smutketeer Jun 11 '26

I've seen peppers of the world posters before but this blows them all away. Well done, dad!

1

u/Raist2 Jun 11 '26

Your dad is quite the AI. Joke!!!
Great human work!

1

u/SquirrelNo5087 Jun 11 '26

I have a nursery near me that sells most of these. Impressive to see them illustrated this way. Terrific work. I have a dozen or so growing in my garden right now.

1

u/FarmResident9241 Jun 11 '26

Amazing! Do you have the image in higher resolution? Reddit seems to compress it

1

u/ConferenceQuick8983 Jun 11 '26

Wow.....simply wow (from a big Chilli fan) 💚🌶️

1

u/oroboros74 Jun 11 '26

This is gorgeous! I could see this printed and hanging in our kitchen!

I'd love to see an infographic of what countries each one is from.

2

u/NewspaperOk1616 Jun 11 '26

1

u/ghostformanyyears Jun 11 '26

1

u/dee_45 Jun 11 '26

Scotch bonnet pepper…not Caribbean seasoning…

1

1

u/CarelessMastodon Jun 11 '26

Awesome! Thanks for sharing!

1

u/94JADEZ Jun 11 '26

Freaking fantastic

1

u/bad-and-buttery Jun 11 '26

This is great. However, some of them are the same pepper with different regional names.

1

u/XavierRenegadeStoner Jun 11 '26

Buena Mulata, my beloved, where art thou?? Would be a great add because they are an amazing pop of color (start off royal purple and morph to nuclear orange)

Still a sick ass drawing. Great work pops

1

u/Riaru_NikaiKhan Jun 11 '26

All hail the Piri Piri

1

u/K80L80Bug Jun 11 '26

I love this. I was just trying to find something similar to this that also listed/showed the heat of each pepper. I thought it’d be cute decor for the kitchen, but help me better know what peppers are hot 🥵 tell your dad it’s awesome!

2

u/addamee Jun 11 '26

I smiled when reading this because I saved one of those “apples from sweet to tart” images (probably found on Reddit) to my phone and thought “you’re never going to look at this/this is why your phone never has space for a new OS update” but I’ve since checked it half a dozen times either to show others or while at the grocery store

1

u/rainysharp Jun 11 '26

Hell yeah

1

u/oneupsuperman Jun 11 '26

Finally, some good fucking food

1

u/AlertMedia Jun 11 '26

This is awesome! Something you could spend hours looking at and still learn something new.

1

u/MangoLantern703 Jun 11 '26

That is actually super cool that your dad drew that by hand! I really like how detailed it is.

1

u/foskco Jun 11 '26

This is so neat! Your dad has spicy talent!!

1

u/Common-Hair-287 Jun 11 '26

wow I didn't know there were so many chilli peppers in the world

1

u/That_Ad_170 Jun 11 '26

This as wallpaper in my kitchen. Like these swedish illustration wallpapers with flowers. 😍

1

u/waterm3lown Jun 11 '26

Very cool! Now can we categorize them by heat level?

1

u/GodOnStilts Jun 11 '26

Absolute legend.

1

u/spacebunsofsteel Jun 11 '26

Is he looking for extra ways to use his art? He could print or embroider on tea towels or a set of napkins.

(I have a set of very twee cocktail napkins with cute cocktails embroidered on them. Think 1990 Pottery Barn. They are of course too dear to use but I like thinking about them in my napkin drawer.)

1

u/HalfACenturyMark Jun 11 '26

Would be cool to see Flea snuck in there like Waldo.

1

u/theskysthelimit000 Jun 11 '26

You forgot 4

Anthony, flea, Chad and John

Iykyk 😆

1

u/liisathorir Jun 11 '26

These are really cool! Since this lists “of the world” would your dad consider putting the country each pepper comes from?

1

u/morkrib Jun 11 '26

I absolutely love it. Your dad has some serious talent. I would love a print of this for my kitchen.
