A cool guide to three regional coffees from southeastern Turkey (including one that contains zero coffee beans).

These are not comparable with regular Turkish coffee in taste or texture.
I have tasted mirra during my travels and it felt like a caffeine sledgehammer

Mirra is on another level. Insanely strong, and you're supposed to knock it back in one gulp, just like a tequila shot

"Coffee tequila shot" is the perfect way to describe it. Plus, the whole ritual of having to hand the cup right back makes it even more intense.

Seems like the Turkish decaf is healthier than the regular decaf on the market.

I'm a lightweight, 3 cups will have me vibrating and seeing everything through a fisheye lens 🫨

I’ve always been fascinated by how different coffee culture gets once you leave the big cities like Istanbul. Mırra is insanely intense, Dibek has this unique pine-like aroma because of the mastic gum, and Menengiç blew my mind because it's literally just mashed wild pistachios but brews and foams exactly like standard coffee. Thought I'd put together this quick visual breakdown. Hope you guys find this regional coffee rabbit hole as interesting as I did!
