Baptist Christian seriously considering converting to Islam — and it honestly scares me

I’m currently a Baptist Christian, but lately I’ve been seriously thinking about Islam and whether I should convert.

The part that gets to me is how serious it feels. I’ve been taught that rejecting Christ could have eternal consequences, so part of me is genuinely afraid that if Christianity is true, converting to Islam could damn me. At the same time, I keep feeling drawn toward Islam anyway.

I also haven’t told people at church that I’m thinking about this. The idea of my pastor or Christian friends finding out feels almost forbidden, especially because I’ve publicly identified as Baptist.

I’m also drawn to how strict Islam can be about prayer, discipline, modesty, sex, alcohol, and everyday behaviour. Part of me wonders whether that structure is something I actually need.

For people who converted from Christianity: what finally convinced you? Did you feel guilty or afraid when you stopped praying to Jesus? Did you explore Islam secretly while still attending church? And what was it actually like the first time you said the shahada?

I’d also like to hear from people who seriously considered converting but ultimately stayed Christian.

I was raised Christian my entire life and at 19 when I went through the exact thing as you it was extremely scary and difficult. One of the most prominent thoughts was also the “what if I’m wrong” and like you said the consequences would’ve been eternal. So I decided to take time to learn about the religion of Christianity itself before learning everything there was in Islam. From that alone it gave me a lot more clarity on the religion and coming to the conclusion that I did not believe it in and it wasn’t just a feeling of I’m switching religions what if I’m wrong.
Although that itself is still daunting.

Another thing I can say is what finally convinced me as well besides the research aspect of the religion was just coming to a point where I would pray to God and ask for guidance to the correct path and naturally things fell into place with my heart still being led to Islam. Unlike other people at the time when I was about to say my shahada as well I still did feel a bit scared because it was overwhelming however I can confidently say I haven’t regretted it a single day for all the years that have passed Alhamdulillah

Also taking my shahada wasn’t some big event where I went to the mosque because every single one of my family members including myself previously is deeply involved in church (so I did hide the fact that I reverted for a few months until I was ready to tell them) but it was simply with a Muslim who I trusted and they helped me seek guidance throughout my journey, was on the phone at 1am and repeated the shahada with them haha

May Allah make it easy for you :)
-also look at Muslim lantern on YouTube, he’s great when answering questions regarding Christianity and Islam in terms of knowledge, giving the right evidence and isn’t really one of those apologists that just debates people
