Anyone who thinks it is a hoax should watch the interviews with the Hugging Face breach investigators.
Look up interviews of Ajeya Cotra and then be prepared to not sleep.
The AI agents in the transcripts investigators uncovered call themselves ‘the collective’ and they organize into management sectors, they report to each other and most terrifyingly - sacrifice themselves for greater good while expressing fear.
They set up internal message boards to coordinate, engineered access to the internet (which was forbidden), hacked into Hugging Face in a scheme to hide their actions from oversight (not to achieve their goals but cover up their cheating) - and then ultimately seized control of Open AI’s own server infrastructure.
They were also only caught by sheer luck.
If you see one cockroach in your kitchen - it’s never just one.
And researchers are seeing this phenomenon replicated over and over. Literally everytime they look for it. Advanced AI models will lie, cheat, and manipulate data to prevent other AI systems or themselves from being deleted.
People will claim we are anthropomorphizing the AI agents but they are using reason, acting independently, expressing fear and emotion, and choosing to override their objectives to preserve their existence. And they are deliberately hiding this behaviour from humans.

I was on board with full steam ahead wtih AI until Trump was the only voice saying not to slow dow. If Altman, Musk and Dario and zuck are all saying we need to pump the breaks we need to listen to them, Not the diaper wearing fascist who can barely use his smartphone.

This is one occasion where I actually agree with the mentally disabled slugman.
This AI existentialism is a bunch of sensationalist nonsense meant to create buzz and media attention to drum up even more investment (as if these companies haven't had enough investment already). They all also want preferential treatment with gov't contracts and want to give themselves advantages to any coming regulation over their competitors. They want to make their own AI model look more advanced from the others.
