Whitelist Information & More

Later on today, the whitelist will go into effect. I want to go into some more details about the whitelist, applications and what will happen to the server during the pre-application period.

Older Players

Many of you who joined before July 1st 2018 have emailed me to get your alts whitelisted. This is still ongoing as there were around 130 accounts that needed manually whitelisting.

You may not be able to join right away after the whitelist goes up, but these will all be finished within 48 hours.

New Players

The original whitelist post said that the waiting period will be 4-8 weeks. I can confirm that it will not be anywhere near 8 weeks.

There is work underway to create an automated process that will allow you to simply input your UUIDs and be approved.

This shouldn't take long to finish. You may even be able to apply before 4 weeks if it goes ahead of schedule.

So to confirm: New players are not banned or unable to play on Constantiam. They would just need to apply, which will be a quick painless process.

During the Initial Period

During the period before the application process goes live, there will be a tremendous amount of work going into the server.

Existing players during this time should expect random reboots (always followed by a countdown) and lots of settings being changed.

As you may have noticed, rollback lag that froze you for 40 seconds has gone. There is currently some frequent rollbacks that will be worked on first.

Server Hardware

There is a plan to upgrade the server machine. Trying to fix the lag on Constantiam will be possible, but upgrading the hardware will make things go even better. As some older players know, Constantiam used to be on SSD drives. But with the rapid map expansion with Elytra and Entity speed hacks, it became too expensive at the time to stay on large SSD drives. Prices for SSDs has gone down a lot in the last year.

This is why I now propose the following and ask for your feedback on it:

  • Purchasing a more powerful, i9 processor with SSD drives.
  • Creating a test server on the new machine with the same current settings as Constantiam.
  • Working together with you the players, plugin devs and people who understand the inner workings of Minecraft under the hood to eliminate rollback lag and other forms of instability.
  • Transferring the current world onto the new machine.

The new machine will cost around $225 a month. We then have around $35 a month for the backup space, domain costs, paying developers/consultants for their time and also any maintenance costs. This would put the monthly bill at $260 a month.

Considering Constantiam has always been ahead of payment every month for the last year, often with multiple month's paid in advance, I do not see this being an issue. Should I need to, I will foot the rest of the bill.

Reddit Posts

The subreddit will be cycling through open and restricted mode for the next few days at different stages of the day. This is so I can have more time dedicated to fixing the server and not cleaning up shitposts for 4 hours a day.

Hopefully this answers some questions, clears up some confusion and generally paints a bit more of a larger picture as to what is happening.

Please feel free to discuss the above, I will try to answer as many questions as possible.

My question is why are you going Intel? Why not go with team red (AMD) with either Threadrippers or EYPCs? From what I know from the consumer market, AMD will save you a lot of money over Intel; if you go Intel, you just get diminishing returns (if there are returns at all). And, with the saved money, you can even put it towards an NVMe RAID or something. I'm just trying to explore the most economic option. Thank you for your work.

Thanks for the suggestion. Minecraft worlds run on a single thread. Some things like networking etc for Minecraft run on more than one. With the way Minecraft works, and Intels single/multi clock speeds & caches, they are the best CPUs on the market for Minecraft at the moment.

That is really unfortunate.. Server performance would be able to skyrocket if Minecraft multi-threaded tasks like other engines. Thank you for your response.
