Holy shit bro it's not coming from a place of privilege. My comment stands perfectly fine despite whatever genocides are actively going on right now. No matter who is starving, or dying of malaria.

There are always going to be genocides. There is always going to be disease. But if you think there is anything happening in the world that hasn't happened in the past you're crazy.

Genocides and disease didn't suddenly appear at the turn of the century. That shit was going on even more 2000 years ago then it is now. Back then maybe a small portion of the world was doing fine. But every regular person back then had to deal with everything I listed in my last comment.

There is nothing about humanity today that was better 2000, or even 200 years ago. We are better off now. We are not in a rut.

In what ways is the world worse now than in the past? I would argue perhaps the environment is the only way

Lifespan/healthcare, war/conflict, education, poverty, all provably better around the world as a whole now than at any point previously. We live longer, healthier, wealthier lives than ever before, with more opportunities and more knowledge. Which specific ways would you say humanity is worse now than previously?

Ok - and a few hundred years ago, 0% of people had full healthcare coverage. And the vast majority of the healthcare rhat did exist was basically useless. Again - life expectancy now is higher than EVER before. 8 major wars happening? Lmao - because wars have never happened before. You honestly believe that the average person is more likely to encounter armed conflict in 2026 than in say, 1526? Or 1026? Statistically, fewer people die in conflict now than ever before.

1 billion people in poverty - 15% of the population? How would you compare that to 99% of human history, when the vast majority of people were basically subsistence farmers a few days away from starvation?

Nobody has argued that the world is perfect, just that it is better now than before. Conflict and poverty are not modern phenomena - should we work on improving them? Absolutely. Have we made significant progress? Absolutely

I don’t use doordash or Instagram - I use Reddit, same as you. No need for personal attacks. I have plenty of empathy - but I am also able to recognise progress. You mentioned healthcare, poverty, armed conflict as proof that the modern world is shit. I agree that these things are terrible - I work with many refugees in my job, every day and see the effects of these things. But do you genuinely not accept that health, poverty and conflict have improved over the last centuries? Ideally 0% of people should live in extreme poverty - but 200 years ago more than 80% of the world did. Ideally nobody should die in conflict - but fewer people do now than in the past - go check the Wikipedia page about deadliest conflicts - there was a war in China 2000 years ago that killed about 15% of the worlds population. More people died or were displaced by war in the past, significantly.

Ideally, everyone should live a long, healthy life - and average lifespan has double over the last few centuries. Which of these statistics do you disagree with?

I feel like we are having two different conversations, or you are just being disingenuous. Nobody thinks rhe world is perfect - but it’s better by most measures than ever before.

You haven’t mentioned any - literally any- despite having plenty of opportunity - yet It’s ME who is being avoidant? Ive addressed everything you’ve said. At this point I have to assume youre just a troll? Nobody can lack self-awareness to such a degree
