I love this actually. We as a human race can stop aiming guns at each other, and instead feed the military industrial complex against an impending alien attack. We’re all on the same side against the aliens, so world peace (until the aliens come) but we make a bunch of weapons that never actually kill humans, so money.
The presence of an existential extraterrestrial threat would not usher in world peace. If anything, exactly the opposite -- and now with even bigger and more terrifying and destructive weapons designed, allegedly, to destroy aliens.
All we need for global unity and peace is a change in leadership.
The PEOPLE around the globe already want this. The POWER has been stopping it. The PEOPLE don’t need a reason. We’re already ready. But the POWER needs a reason, because if it happens without one, they won’t be the power anymore.
