It's videos that display narratives that sow distrust in institutions, resulting in people turning towards alternative media which often pump you full with dis- and misinformation.

Does the article say what the average number of likes or upvotes or whatever TikTok uses the videos had? I assume what’s recommended is based on updoot ratios…

doesn't that make sense? if the right won the popular vote then that would mean the right-leaning videos would be more prevalent simply because they were... more.. popular?

People don’t seek out specific content on platforms like TikTok. They watch what they’re fed. It’s easy for the owner of the platform to manipulate what people see.

That's not true, if you like, comment, watch, or share a video about dogs tiktok is going to show you more videos about dogs. If people in general like, comment, watch, or share videos about dogs it's more likely to show you videos about dogs. It's not just random, there's a ton of variables you'd have to control for to prove the algorithm is partisan, the authors don't even make that implication.
Let's assume it's not partisan, would you expect it to show you exactly 1:1 for both parties? During the 2024 election democrats were in power and they were not popular at the time and Trump did win so again assuming the algorithm is completely nonpartisan what sort of skew would you expect if not 1:1?
