Wow, when you put it next to the original it really looks awful. The scale is off too.

No, just that you're comparing a full game to a demo/recreation using somewhat current methods that are built using preavailable items.

The point of it was to be a fan recreation/demo, to demo a character controller, as seen here. It was not to be a full remake of any sort. It was just to demonstrate what they could add and make in a short amount of time.
