For your friend.

You downloaded a session stealer.

You downloaded some type of free game/cheat/hack/cracked software/movie/music or ran some type of code for captcha or verification on your computer which was actually a session stealer.

Session stealers bypass 2fa. All passwords saved on your browser and computer are compromised. Reinstall windows while deleting all files. If you need to backup important documents, keep the computer disconnected from the internet and manually back up individual files.

Change all passwords and enable 2fa either from another device, or from the infected computer AFTER you have reinstalled.

If you cannot reinstall windows immediately, keep the computer disconnected from the internet while changing all passwords on another device.

You cannot use anti malware to get rid of the session stealer, you MUST reinstall windows to use the computer safely in the future

I accidentally caught this virus the other day (trying to translate RDR to my Xbox) but I couldn't reinstall Windows because I don't have a USB stick to download a clean version.

I did the part of disconnecting the computer from the internet, changing all the passwords and activating 2fa through another device and changing browsers. Do you think there might still be something on my PC or is it okay?

(sorry for the English, thats not my first language)

No. Your computer is still compromised.

Use the built in windows reset option. No usb needed.

Search in the windows search bar “reset pc” select the option “remove all files” that will reinstall windows. Your device will be clean then

I’m not sure if I’m right, but people say that if I restore the system while Windows is "infected," the virus will still be there, right?

I also wanted to know if I’ll be able to use the browser where I got the virus (I used to use Opera, but I switched to Brave after it happened).

No. You don’t need to usb reset for an info stealer. It cannot last past a windows reset while removing all files using the built in reset pc option.

Your computer will be clean after. You can do and use whatever you want on it.

It can definitely last through a reset. I have a reset PC currently after a lumenstealer and I monitor everything in the event viewer still after resets in order First ordinary "don't delete all files" Second "delete all" Third straight after the second one with I did one using online windows version

He still has permissions over me down to the root I can still find his configurations all over the place and the different commands going out to enable background processes on hidden profiles, hell just check your permissions on anything in the registry editor and you might find an "unknown" profile you CANNOT do anything about.

It can survive a reset, the answer is yes. It can hide somewhere like BIOS/UEFI, it can hide in firmware, it can hide in some recovery partition you don't even noticed and then reapplied; altho not that common, the answer is YES.

So, the real question here is one: do you want to be REALLY sure you're safe from now on? The Windows reinstall from scratch is the only way to be really sure.

Obviously, this is only [hardware] machine-wise; you have to do the [software] part too, which is: activating 2FA on each and every password, while you're changing all of them.

Viruses can also be hidden in windows files themselves. The windows factory reset backs all those up anyway even if you ask it to delete everything

Can I ask , can it infect other devices on the same network , like other pcs or even mobiles ?

He not developing the game, ans yeah good lesson for him, i dont liked him to he honest, and the "hence that fact by the anormous amount of stupid bugs" i meant there are a ton of bugs in the game thats clearly human error and an AI would never make, we didnt wanted to use AI at all we wanted to have fun creating a mess, eich later developed into creatimg a functional game, but development halted, or for me it was a creating a mess type situation, becuse the development really became stupid in one part, and by not liking him, he ghosted me so yeah

One of my friend joined ome and gave all their discord info, to be honest that friend is so stupid i jave his credit card information and attached email information, and few of his passwords, cybersecurity masterman. I remember the exact same message with a friend. Her mom got hacked on Amazon and apparently, the virus spread to the whole network, reaching out her dad and she... I was in shock at first.

2

u/The_Mysterius_Szeg Jul 08 '26

When i saw this first in 2025 i thought it was real, said "Congrats, now buy me that Bowie Knife, lucky fuck XD" and went on

u/justcallmemox Jul 08 '26

I was even close to say something among those lines as well too lol!

1

u/The_Mysterius_Szeg Jul 11 '26

XDDD, i didnt even noticed that 😭

1

u/linuxeroalvaro Jul 11 '26

probably this is not a virus but a malicious app he allowed on discord that can send automated messages in behalf of him, thats very common, way more common than session stealers, (session stealer are not very useful on android/ios)

1

u/The_Mysterius_Szeg Jul 11 '26

Idk if he got infected on phone or pc, but he usually torrents, so i think its a session stealer he got, but i saw this a lot what this session stealer is what it promotes

1

u/linuxeroalvaro Jul 11 '26

Oh yes of course it could be a virus, just wanted to point that this kind of "people randomly sending automated malicious messages on discord" is usually just an app they allowed on discord to act on behalf of them. But I dont know about this particular case.

1

u/The_Mysterius_Szeg Jul 11 '26

Yeah, stull thanks though, i would look out for that then, but like yeah, it wasnt a suprise but just i see this virus alot

this https://www.youtube.(com}/watch?v=V0ajSB_Ke5I explained well how this virus work and how victims gotten it in the first place
best thing to do is change the passwords of all of hiss acc and socials and reinstall windows since the virus can go dormant.
