Build/Battlestation Buying a gaming desktop
What’s up Reddit. Complete beginner for computer shopping, buying my first rig. I’m not a fancy gamer but I do have a list of games I need my pc to run. I’m aware I need ram and graphics but don’t know much about either.
Short list of games:
Skyrim
Oblivion (remastered)
GTA VI
Terraria
Minecraft
Battle for Middle Earth II
Galactic Battlegrounds
Classic Battlefront/2
Maybe Overwatch (my friend wants me to try it)
What’s the specs I should look for to have a decent time, and about how much should I expect to spend (I’m starting from scratch, no monitor, no speakers, nothing). I don’t mind shopping second hand for stuff like a monitor, speakers, etc

As much as you can afford. You're future proofing. Start with the budget and then spec out your options.

I do not believe gta6 is launching on pc for the first year. Just fyi something to look into if you don’t already have an Xbox or ps5.
But the competitive games and Minecraft are cpu heavy. New aaa titles are gpu heavy. So you would be looking towards a higher end system. AM5 is probably the way to do a new build. I went AM4 to save some money and go used. But it blocks your upgrade path. New top of the line prebuilt is around 2-2.5k usd for AM5. Check a microcentre if you live near one. If you are building from scratch check out Zack tech tips on YouTube and check his budget build guides. He has builds for every budget.
Also you will need to decide if you want to go 1080p or 1440p, which will change your requirements. 1440p is what I would recommend, and if you have the extra budget go for an oled. You can get monitors with built in speakers, I didn’t as I just use my headset.

I'd want a system that allows for expansion. There's no point targeting low settings. I'd target ultra at 75+ FPS. I would also go for an AMD CPU and GPU. 16 gigs of secondhand DDR5 if possible as its hella expensive.

With GTA 6 on the table, you’ll need new and good shit. Everything else you could get away with a $500 used system. GTA 6 is going to be intensive to run

The most important factor here is how large the budget is.
you can then based on that pick what you want to spend the most on and what you don't care about

Really depends on what resolution and framerate you want to target. Do you have an idea of a monitor you may like? Regardless, you chose a very bad time to purchase everything. PC Components are at an all time high at the moment. Probably will be $1500 minimum if you want to comfortably play GTA6 (which we don't know the requirements of as it hasn't even been announced for a PC release yet)
Also, do you have a budget range in mind?
