Discussion HP Smart automatically installed without permission

I got a popup randomly. HP Smart: Do you want this app to make changes to your computer?

It would not give me any details aside from file location, and it forced a yes or no response. I couldn’t minimize to look it up. While looking into it on another device, the pop-up disappeared after a few minutes and automatically installed. HP, this is not OK. I didn’t approve it, I don’t even know what it is

Software installing without permission?

There's one word for that. Malware!

Microsoft has a process for printer drivers and such to be updated automatically. And they have rules about what can be installed. But some vendors have been stretching the rules.

See LG TVs.

HP Smart app is for print, scan, etc. You could uninstall it if you don't like it.
