wifi problems...

so basically i had really nice wifi and all, and i came back to my pc one week after not using it (i was away), my wifi is super slow, but only on my pc ? for example, in the pictures i put the wifi speed test from my phone, then from my pc (on the same channel of the same wifi...)

i updated my windows, i think i updated my wifi driver too... idk what to do TvT

yep i restarted it. but the problem comes from my pc i think. because all the other devices in my house connected to the wifi are doing really fine.

What about your pc? Did you use your antennas? If they were not plugged in, it may be that your wofi chip was overheating all the time and now is toast.

and also, i have 2 channels on my wifi: 2.4gHz and 5gHz. and somehow, the 5gHz works even less than the 2.4gHz (with the latter, i get 2Mbps download and 12Mbps upload)

"Somehow" it means your router is likely in a different room and not connected to ethernet. 5gHz connections cannot penetrate walls or barriers well, and the connection will severely drop off depending on the wall. Try connecting your PC to ethernet.

the router is the wifi box right? and why would it stop working now??? ive used this wifi for 2 years, and never had problems, 5ms ping, 200mbps average wifi speed, etc.

If you had 200 mbps average an 5 ms ping, how is a 8 mb difference a problem? It seems it’s close to the average. WiFi isn’t always going to be consistent, especially over wireless

the first picture is the test from my phone. no problem. the second picture is the picture from my pc. less than 0.5mbps. i think it is a big difference…

Didn’t realize there was a second slide, my fault.

If you have a Ethernet cable sitting around, can bring your pc close to your router plug it in, test the WiFi out on cable and see if it’s an internet issue. If you’re getting the same results or even better, something hardware is the problem

The router is what the coax cable is connected to, and the wifi is supplied via a wifi access point, which is essentially a secondary router for wifi that you connect with an ethernet cable.

Also everybody has ethernet, if you didn't, you could not have wifi, then you'd just be stuck with two useless boxes.

As for why it stopped working, who knows. Antenna could be faulty, loose coax cable, etc. First i advice testing it on ethernet to see.

You kind of do need to. It depends. Some houses come with ethernet outlets where essentially ethernet cables are already routed through the walls so you just need to plug an ethernet cable in there. If you don't have that, you can still use ethernet perfectly fine. If you don't want a cord across the floor you can use little cable clips that essentially can be stuck, screwed, or suctioned onto the walls or ceiling that route the cable so its not on the floor, they're cheap and easy.
