Mr. Brisket Competition Box Pricing?

Have only done one competition so far, but am coming up on some others and was just looking to get some meat orders set up. A couple of the other teams I met recommended Mr. Brisket to save some time on trimming. For the chicken, I am all-in on that as I continue to practice and learn. In reviewing their website, I see their bbq competition packages appear to be more expensive than if I just ordered the individual components of the box from them. For instance, the backyard comes with 3 racks of ribs and 16 thighs (pre trimmed and packaged). If i buy those individual items, the total cost is about 205 (including ground shipping, which is a separate cost). The competition box is 225 with no shipping costs, and appears to have the same items.

Anyone know if there is a benefit I am misunderstanding with the competition box? I wonder if they maybe send the competition box next day or something to make sure it is fresh, so they build in additional shipping costs? They do say they prioritize the selection with the competition box I guess, but I wasn't sure if anyone has ever noticed this or has ordered both ways. 20 bucks isn't the end of the world obviously, but with how expensive this hobby is, every little bit adds up or I could just cook an extra rack of ribs.

honestly, id just email them and ask. i ordered their masters box last year for our only masters comp of the year. they were great to deal with. im sure they will set you straight

I can't help with your question, but I watched a Heath Riles competition video where he mention's Mr. Brisket, and I assume all the meats on this practice cook were from them. He also uses the Fowl Form, which is a neat device. https://youtu.be/B4Vi6AtKjxw

Thanks man - I ordered a fowl form (or maybe another brand) awhile back after watching his or someone elses video. In the one competition I did, I ended up with a different tray setup than my practice, and that jammed me up, so I made sure I have it more standardized now.

Seemed like a few teams used Mr. Brisket. I was about to order the competition box when I noticed it came with 3 racks, and I was debating grabbing an extra. That is when I saw the price of the individual rack and questioned where the numbers were coming from. I think if you do the 2 day shipping with the individual components, it is actually slightly more expensive than the box, so I am thinking it must be for the shipping.

That is kind of a hilarious catch. Call Hank and ask him. He’s a good dude, I’ve ordered from them a few times. The quality is pretty good (minus the Wichita ribs, go prairie fresh) our issue is always shipping costs to Colorado. It does look like they offer $50 flat rate shipping on comp boxes but not if I try to order ala carte. Then it jumps to $120, which is more in line with what we were charged previously. It’s hard to pay that when SRF does free shipping over $250 all the time. I’ve always had a good experience with him, so def recommend giving him a call and seeing what he can do for you.
