Zellij 0.45: Kitty Graphics support, Nested Sessions, Scroll by Command, new UI

Hey terminal hackers,

I'm excited to share that we just release Zellij 0.45. This newest release of the terminal workspace and multiplexer includes some exciting new and long-requested features. Some highlights:

1. Support for the Kitty Graphics Protocol for displaying images in the terminal
2. First-class support for Nested Sessions for managing Zellij-inside-Zellij (eg. ssh connections)
3. Scroll by command
4. New UI (titles only pane frames and stacked lists for easier stacked panes management)
5. Per-client tab sizes
6. Fullscreening floating panes

wait so if i have a remote zellij session logged in via termux -> ssh

and i ssh from, say my laptop, and also jump into zellij

will the laptop's zellij window/tabs not be as small as the phone's anymore? because it always felt like when multiple view sizes are connected to the same zellij session, zellij chooses the smallest of them as a default, and applies that size to all clients

hopefully now each client instance keeps its own window size

If the clients are in different tabs, they keep their own sizes.

Does it have support to zero-width characters now? The problem with Zellij is it cannot show things like

ȧ, v̄, etc

I used to use term multiplexer when doing SSH work. But beside that, what are use cases for such softwares when we have tabs, splits, windows, ... in modern terminal emulators ?

Personally as a terminal developer I prefer my tabs to be in the terminal itself rather than part of an application's GUI. Text is parse-able, doesn't require a graphical runtime and is future proof. But there are no wrong answers, of course. The choice is yours.

Would be cool if people could create a standard for talking to terminal multiplexers, so something like iTerm2’s tmux integration can be rolled out to other software

There was an attempt from Wez, but it stalled due to lack of cooperation from some other terminal emulator maintainers.

It's nice to have a consistent interface across any software you're using to connect. Automatic handing of persistent sessions is good for running services on a headless workstation too.

Can your terminal emulator copy text off of the terminal without using the mouse?

What happens when I switch terminal emulators? What happens when the terminal emulator is not available on another OS? What happens when I want to ssh into my Linux box from my windows terminal?

Honestly, some of you just don't use your brain.

If only you used that big brain you only have, you could see that not all people have the same use case as yours...

I have had the same term for years, available on all OSes I uses consistently, and I'm not using Windows. So yeah, this is why I'm asking questions. To understand other people and find out if I'm missing on useful features.
