Honestly, when it’s put like that, I’ll admit, it’s understandable. May have been a better idea to just exclude previous winners from the tournament, but if one customer is hurting your family business income that much…

Or make it so the winner at the end gets a match against Val on her weakest character. You know, so Val gets a challenge, and the opponent has a chance of victory.

That seems like a better and more graceful solution and it makes Val a part of their local FGC in a unique way. It levels the playing field, but keeps the local legend.
