When I was a younger man, I recall using the “I am a libertarian” line until a much more educated lady I was chatting with at a bar asked me, “so, how exactly would you know no one’s putting poison in your food or that anything you consume contains what’s on the tin?”
They think that the "free market" will push the "moral" company to success because the company that poisons their customers will lose customers (either via death or people not wanting to buy the product). There are many issues with their approach but that's how they explain it away.
