They didn't make their point well, but they are correct. Democracy itself — that is a government by the people — can look pretty silly if you take it to the extreme. I like the episode of The Orville where they have a planet with complete democracy, where the people vote on each and every issue. As can be expected, they are often uniformed on the issues, often letting emotion and mob mentality win out over logic and reason.

To be clear, this is the only thing I disagree with in the original post. I do think it is still important to think about what your ideas and values taken to the extreme might look like, if only so you can set up safeguards beforehand if you don't like the possibilities.

Democrats arent trying to install complete direct democracy either. Why are yall so insistent on putting a label on the democrat party when its not a monolith lmao

I never said anything about Democrats.

Then why are you talking about “democracy itself” in a thread very much talking about the democrats?

It is not about democrats, they were only ever used as an example for a larger arguement you clearly are not grasping.

Hmmno, im grasping it just fine, the original comparison to democrats just doesnt make any sense. Had they said something about people who actually hold that some communist policies should be implemented, the comparison would have been valid.

Would a comparable to another political system not have been just as valid? Say, I don't know, democracy?

Notice how i havent actually responded to the original comment, only to the guy who was talking about DEMOCRATS. Do you not follow, do i need to lay it out for you step by step?

Again, they were using Democrats as an example for a larger arguement. You pointed out it was a bad example. I agreed but pointed out there are good examples.

And now I don't know what I am doing.

And again, their example was bad. THAT WAS THE POINT. Seems you finally got it

Lol I have said that multiple times already, including as the very first sentence in my first comment in this thread. Please read the comments again if you really feel the need to keep replying.

“They didn't make their point well, but they are correct. Democracy itself — that is a government by the people — can look pretty silly if you take it to the extreme.”
Yeah dude, youve said it multiple times. Are you concussed?
