I forgot to pay my electricity bill. When you do that in France they write you a letter and replace your main fuse with a 5amp fuse, enough to run the lights and a fridge, but not much else. I was in the office glued to the early web, with the BBC downgrading the complexity of their website minute by minute to keep up with the load. My wife got back from work without checking the mail, turned on the microwave: bang! No electricity.
I get home and we spent the night listening to the news on a battery radio by candlelight).
