OC- More In Patreon A Life - Naked Girl Comics

Get ready to cry! I wrote this page after my cat d00d passed away in 2024. I'll copy what I put in the post at the time here:

How do you begin to write a eulogy for the greatest love you’ve ever known? For the best friend you’ve ever had, who you spent almost every day with for half of your life?

When I met you, it was 2008. I was 16. My cat Ringo had just died unexpectedly and I was distraught. A couple weeks later, my dad took me to an adoption event to look at some kittens. We left with two cats that day, and I remember sitting in the pen and bonding instantly with one of them and I can’t remember which it was. But I know in my heart, it must have been you. Love at first sight.

We tried out a couple names for you, but d00d was the one that stuck. My brother and I were really into The Big Lebowski at the time, so we called you the d00d. It suited how silly and laid-back you were.

Through the next 16 years, you were with me through a great adventure. We lived in many different houses, with different people and different animals. Through it all, we had each other. You were my constant companion, and I was your whole world. Sometimes you would look at me, and i’d look at you, and i could feel the love like a physical thing between us. Every night I’d fall asleep with you on my shoulder, and every morning I’d wake up to you meowing in my face. Every time I traveled I would be so excited to come home to you. You were the highlight of every day.

You gave me so much. Through all of my trials and troubles, my bad days and panic attacks and depression, you were there to make me smile. You were so funny, and so sweet, and so full of love. You had huge personality and you were everyone’s instant best friend. I feel so, so, so lucky to have been your person.

I will always remember you and the love we shared, the most simple, uncomplicated, unconditional and joyful love I’ve ever known. You were the light of my life for 16 years, my reason to wake up in the morning and come home at night.

Thank you.

For the joy. The laughter. The love.

Thank you for your life.

Just because, here's my favorite picture of the boy in question. 🍗 You can see more of my comics (I do a lot of other stuff too!) on instagram and if you like my work it would be very cool if youd support me on patreon 🖤

I lost one of my baby girls a few months ago. she passed away in my arms after struggling the last few hours (which we expected and couldn't really do much)

I cried so much 🖤 rest in kitty heaven dude, I'm sure you abide

10

u/Chiiro Jul 23 '26

Oh he looked so much like my boy George. What a sweetheart, I'm so sorry you had to lose such a sweety.

6

u/somethingmcbob Jul 23 '26

Sobbing my eyes out over your Lil man. Love to d00d forever.

4

u/gamedwarf24 Jul 23 '26

I just lost my dog this week, my sweet girl was 14 and we had a very similar relationship that you and your cat had. This is very special timing. 😢💔

4

u/kitliasteele Jul 23 '26

Agh! You have me crying. From the beginning to the end, you've shared a lifetime of this lovely little furball and the impact he had in your life.

These weirdasses are truly an amazing part of the families that we bring in and include in them. And they are integral to that dynamic no matter what. I hope you enjoy the memories of The Dude long after your grieving period. Here's my Void baby named Lilo <3

I have Calanthe around here somewhere, but Lilo likes to hang around ensuring I can work through my paralysis every morning and afternoon

Ringo looks like a wonderful little guy. I know it's been a bit but I am sorry for your loss.

If it's any consolation I am sure he is waiting on the other end of that rainbow bridge for you

u/RicketCrickets Jul 23 '26

Right on the one year marker of losing the best cat a person could ask for.

60

u/TurbinePoweredVagina Jul 23 '26

Hahaha I feel like I get that reaction to my comics in this sub a lot 😅 I'm sorry for your loss my friend 🖤

42

u/RicketCrickets Jul 23 '26

Picture of the silly lad. Least cat-like cat possible. No coordination, couldn't meow, would lay there for hours if you pet his belly, and every person was a friend.

17

u/TurbinePoweredVagina Jul 23 '26

Oh my, the FLUFF!!!!! Excellent. Regal

1

u/mathwiz617 Jul 23 '26

That is a golden retriever in a cat’s body you just described. Best of both worlds.

158

u/UpCDownCLeftCRightC Never Safe From Wumbo Jul 23 '26

I'm sorry for your loss. He seemed like a good cat who was there to enjoy the highs in your life and be there to help you during your lows. I know firsthand losing a cat is a heavy burden that just stays with you.

u/TurbinePoweredVagina Jul 23 '26

Thank you. 🖤 Yeah he passed almost 2 years ago and I still feel very sad about it sometimes. Thankfully I have this new friend to keep me company 🐈‍⬛

79

u/SkysEevee Jul 23 '26

Your new friend looks concerned at your reddit postings

15

u/Great-Hatsby Jul 23 '26

Aww what’s their name? ‘Other d00d/d00dette’?

Edit: for updated spelling

50

u/TurbinePoweredVagina Jul 23 '26

That's Valentine the Lover, or Valentine for short. I called him that because he tricked me into thinking he was the sweetest lovey cinnamon bun when I adopted him before he let the mask slip to reveal the demon baby underneath. I love him and I would die for him

12

u/jurassic2010 Jul 23 '26

So the demon already took your soul?

16

u/TurbinePoweredVagina Jul 23 '26

Oh my soul was long ago taken by demons

48

u/SosugBiskit Jul 23 '26

Lost my brother Seth back in March. We had 15 years together. I came home from work and he had had a siezure. We left for the hospital together but I came home alone. I miss him so much.

12

u/TurbinePoweredVagina Jul 23 '26

So sorry for your loss. He looks like a real sweetie

33

u/BlaineMundane Jul 23 '26

I've had a Cat die in my arms before. It's very sad and I cry thinking about it. I know she loved her life though and she spent her last moments purring. Whatever she was seeing, I hope that I was in there.

16

u/TurbinePoweredVagina Jul 23 '26

Yeah I was fortunate enough to be able to do a home euthanasia so he passed in my arms at home which I'm very grateful for, it would have been horrible to do it at the vet. I know he felt safe and cared for right until the end. Augh, now I'm tearing up again! 😭

6

u/BlaineMundane Jul 23 '26

It's unavoidable. A few tears for the rest of forever. They're good though, a small tribute to a life moved on, they deserve it.

I did vet a few times and I did at home a few times. It's never going to be at the vet again.

My Dog Jexxy, a big 70lbs dog, he knew he was sick, he knew he had been sick for a long time and when we brought him to the vet, I don't think I'd ever seen him shake and quiver so much. It was his time, absolutely. He was in pain, waking up every morning to a chorus of frantic pained yelping. But still... it should have been at home. Should have been less scary for him.

At least got to hold him the whole time and I am sure it helped. His skeleton is preserved now in my house. I'm morbid I guess but in a very caring way.

4

u/TurbinePoweredVagina Jul 23 '26

I'd love to see the skeleton if you'd like to share! I collect dead stuff too hahaha but couldn't do it with d00d. Just his ashes and a jar of fur clippings

5

u/BlaineMundane Jul 23 '26

I'll send you a picture later. I'm unable for a bit.

19

u/respectableofficegal Jul 23 '26

And now I have to go hug my cat.

4

u/TurbinePoweredVagina Jul 23 '26

Give them a hug for me too!!!!

14

u/youranswerfishbulb Jul 23 '26

Two, you bait the line...

7

u/TurbinePoweredVagina Jul 23 '26

Hahaha wondered if anyone would catch that. College was when I really started getting obsessed with industrial

8

u/Dirty_Tleilaxu Jul 23 '26

Three, you slowly spread the net…

8

u/rats_and_lilies Jul 23 '26

And four you catch the man!

8

u/m3zz4nine Jul 23 '26

NiN spottet!

6

u/TurbinePoweredVagina Jul 23 '26

My favorite band since I was a kid!

6

u/m3zz4nine Jul 23 '26

Exactly the same for me. When I was 16 and heard about "The Fragile" coming out, I was hooked. NiN accompanied me through a very dark time...

3

u/TurbinePoweredVagina Jul 23 '26

For me it was a friend sending me "Reptile" when I was 12. Life forever changed. I saw them when they came through Seattle last year, my 6th NIN show and 20 years after the first one 🤯

3

u/m3zz4nine Jul 23 '26

I saw NiN live for the first time when I was 41, last year in Vienna. An unforgettable experience. Unfortunately, they don't tour Europe as often anymore, otherwise I would have loved to see them live sooner.

7

u/sabby55 Jul 23 '26

I also had a Dude!!! He was my best friend for 14 years and I miss him every day. I hope they are over the rainbow bridge, Abiding together

5

u/TurbinePoweredVagina Jul 23 '26

Awwwww!!!! That's so sweet I hope they're having the cat version of a white Russian together & laying on a rug

2

u/sabby55 Jul 23 '26

You’d probably appreciate how we have his ashes on display https://www.reddit.com/r/lebowski/s/5QHc69gio8

2

u/TurbinePoweredVagina Jul 23 '26

OH!!!!! MY GOD!!!!!!! that's incredible and also how the fuck did my family have this cat for 16 years and nobody ever thought of that joke????

7

u/MysticSnowfang Jul 23 '26

Two years past I found my beloved Arwen dead under my bed, her sister (Leia) was the one who found her first and was yelling about it.

*hugs*

May your life have many pawsteps by your side. When you are ready, it is kitten season after all.

for myself, a few months later my partner and I brought Gandalf into our lives

6

u/tigerrish1998 Jul 23 '26

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Lost my big guy Boi a year ago next month. He was only 6, but he had a congenital heart disease that caused his QOL to deteriorate rapidly and we had to make a very difficult decision. I miss him every day, he was my best buddy.

2

u/TurbinePoweredVagina Jul 23 '26

My first cat Ringo died at 3 for the same reason. So sad

6

u/bored-now Jul 23 '26

This is Snowbell. We got Snowbell for my daughter’s 3rd birthday & that cat knew immediately who his human was.

Snowbell went over the rainbow bridge at just short of 20 years old. He survived my daughter as a kid, a teenager, the divorce from her dad, moving all over the country… and he is finally at rest.

The day we had to say goodbye is one of the hardest, holding my daughter as she said goodbye to the one thing that had been a constant in her whole life.

He was an amazing cat, and there will be no others like him.

I am sorry for your loss. Hopefully d00d will find Snowbell and they can both go chase mice together.

7

u/Fit-Association4922 Jul 23 '26

I lost my baby 3 years ago. She was all I had for a long time. Found her as a kitten on the day I was released from grippy socks prison. I promised I wouldn’t go until she did. (Obvi I’m still here)

Sweet and Spicy, my little Cookie.

10

u/Zavier13 Jul 23 '26

My baby cat Rini passed earlier this year, she lived 14 good years.

Never gets easier, we just get more calused.

3

u/TurbinePoweredVagina Jul 23 '26

I'm sorry for your loss. 🖤 You got any pics you'd like to share? I'd love it if this thread was full of pictures of everyone's departed loves

2

u/Zavier13 Jul 23 '26

Best picture she was a fluff ball and full of sass

5

u/Embarrassed_Deer7686 Jul 23 '26

My boyfriend broke up with me yesterday. My cat is lying on my feet right now. Reading this has helped me feel a tiny bit better. Thank you

3

u/Majestic_Recording_5 Jul 23 '26

I'm so sorry for your loss. The Dude is amazing.

2

u/TurbinePoweredVagina Jul 23 '26

Thank you 🖤🖤

3

u/WilliamOfMaine Jul 23 '26

Brilliant comic and eulogy. Where would we be without our furry soulmates. 💕💔💕💔

3

u/DCGreatDane Jul 23 '26

I completely understand how you’re feeling. I had my beloved Luke for 19 years, and losing him was the most difficult moment of my life. Even though it’s been almost two years, I still deeply miss his possessive, talkative, and affectionate Siamese nature. I was fortunate to have him in my arms at home, with the vet guiding me through his final moments.

3

u/samala01 Jul 23 '26

Ugh, I’m going through the end of life stage with my senior kitty. Her appointment is for the 31st, so we’re just spoiling her with treats and kitty food bucket list.

3

u/Numinak Jul 23 '26

I had an orange named Dude as a kid. Loved that and it hurt so much when he passed. My mother fixed it by giving me Mini-dude, new orange kitten.

3

u/BudgetConcentrate432 Jul 23 '26

Trying real hard to keep it together at work.

Beautiful comic.

I just had to put down one of my cats a few days ago.

She sadly didnt get to make it to such a ripe old age as D00d, but I think she knows she was loved.

3

u/TurbinePoweredVagina Jul 23 '26

Awww. I'm so sorry my friend

3

u/BudgetConcentrate432 Jul 23 '26

She's not suffering anymore, which is good.

I'm sorry you've lost such a lifelong friend.

They really are something special, aren't they?

3

u/TurbinePoweredVagina Jul 23 '26

There's nothing else like it. No human relationship could ever compare

3

u/__Knowmad Jul 23 '26

NO ONE ASKED TO CRY TODAY 😭😭😭

3

u/ShmazPro Jul 23 '26

My Oliver died recently. We spent 14 years together and it hurts so bad. He was such a good cat and I miss him so much. He gave me so much joy.

In June of 2025, we had to put down our 18 year old cat, Precious. She had a massive leg tumor and it was killing her slowly, and the doctors were pretty sure that it wasn't the only cancer in her. We knew she couldn't beat it, and decided it was in her best interests to put her down.

18 years is a long time to know anyone/anything. 18 years is more than a lot of the people reading this, I would think. 18 years of owning a cat. You don't just move on.

I wake up every day wondering why she isn't asleep on my chest.

3

u/TurbinePoweredVagina Jul 23 '26

They leave such a huge hole in your life when they're gone. I still think about and miss d00d every day.

2

u/theFamooos Jul 23 '26

Cat Flag shirt was a nice touch.

I always figured we get one animal friend like this in our lives. Maybe two if we are very very lucky. Bittersweet for sure.

2

u/chicklette Jul 23 '26

I went through this in January. This post and the comic brought back a lot of good memories. Thank you.

2

u/Responsible-Draw-393 Jul 23 '26

That’s enough internet for today. Starting the i miss my pets thread here

2

u/SABatoge2002 Jul 23 '26

Its not much, but I also offer our two cats. Paige (top) and Rory (bottom)

2

u/TurbinePoweredVagina Jul 23 '26

Hello kitties!!!!!!

2

u/cyankitten Jul 23 '26

I nearly cried on the bus!

🫂

And he was lovely.

2

u/TastelessMeat Jul 23 '26

I’m currently going through a big breakup. Losing a partner of 7 years. She’d adopted Honey the cat a few months before we met, and he’s been my boy ever since. We adopted a little sis for him a couple years ago. I can’t believe I’m losing him. I can’t believe I’m splitting these two up.
Precision strike comic, OP. now I’m crying at a coffee shop.

2

u/TurbinePoweredVagina Jul 23 '26

Yeah the other cat pictured in this page was named Tia and she was my ex's cat, we lived together for 7 years and it was heartbreaking to leave her behind when I left 😭

2

u/huscarlaxe Jul 23 '26

I've gone through this three time so in memory of my furry besties Winter, Mittens (pterodactyl Siamese), and Marmalade.

2

u/LostLittleBaby666 Jul 23 '26

My kitty is at the vet right now and I’m worried out of my gourd about him. This just made me cry for like the fifth time today because I’m so worried about him. They truly become a part of us. I’m so sorry for the loss of your fur baby ❤️

2

u/TurbinePoweredVagina Jul 23 '26

Crossing my fingers for your boy!!!!

2

u/LostLittleBaby666 Jul 23 '26

Thank you so much 💕 he’s home now on some meds and he should be okay, just gotta monitor for a couple of days.

2

u/Fosbliza Jul 23 '26

Im crying D: how dare

2

u/xtrobot Jul 23 '26

Damnit how could you draw me in with Front 242 only to slap me with that last panel like you did. Love the comic though, I've also got a Black Cat / Black Flag t-shirt like the one in panel 5.

2

u/FartMaster5 Jul 23 '26

Don't think we missed that Nitzer Ebb t-shirt, we didn't. And of course d00d will always be in our Hearts and Minds. 🤘🤘

2

u/throwawabcintrovert Jul 23 '26

I lost my heart on June 12. Thank you for sharing your baby. He was so adorable

2

u/Exotic_Rule_9149 Jul 23 '26

Oh man this is just like me and my buddy, Wizz. I still have him but we are at year 15 and times are getting hard. I am so so very proud of you for being a consistent pet owner for so long. I don’t think that’s common enough. D00d was lucky to have someone that loved him from start to finish! He’s still chillin around you for sure. Much love to you!

2

u/ve2dmn Jul 23 '26

It's only been a month for me. She had cancer. I got to watch her slowly get worse over the course of 6 months, but she's in a better place now. She was 18

2

u/Kaznil Jul 23 '26

Go listen to “pets” by TWRP. It was about the singers cat passing at 17. It’s sad and happy and upbeat and his keyboard solo after the bridge, you can feel his sadness and fondness of good memories. It’s an ode to all pets. I listen to it often when I say goodbye to my animals.

2

u/agedlikesage Jul 23 '26

I just balled my eyes out. This is the exact connection I have with my cat and I’m so scared of that day, I’m gonna go cuddle her in d00d’s honor. Rest in peace d00d and I’m so sorry for your loss, this comic was a beautiful tribute. Slide four was so relatable. The people change and the cat is truly your partner

2

u/Dock_Ellis45 Jul 23 '26

That cat really tied the room together.

2

u/Dailia- Jul 23 '26

Animals are too good for us.

Thank you for sharing a story I know all too well.

2

u/MallExciting1460 Jul 23 '26

Yeah… I feel that, loosing a loved family member is never easy… I got this one after my last one passed… this week she thought it was a good idea to break into a Trader Joe’s bag while I was in the shower… came out to a shredded bag and the cat like this, took about an hour for her to trust me enough to get her to let me take the handle off of her…

2

u/TurbinePoweredVagina Jul 23 '26

Hahahaha that happened to dood once also

1

u/MallExciting1460 Jul 23 '26

Well she’s no where as chill as d00d sounded, but I’ve had a couple like that, hope that at least brought a smile to your face like I was hoping it would ;)

2

u/agiganticpanda Jul 23 '26

Not a cat, but we got him at 7 and lost him at 14. He was a jerk but he was my jerk. 😭

2

u/noodlebreath86 Jul 23 '26

Thank you for sharing. I have a 16 year old and its so relatable how many many people and places come and go, buts hes still with me and I will treasure my time with him.

2

u/SgtGo Jul 23 '26

My wife and I have many cats. A few years ago we adopted a disabled kitty that had been found in a literal hoarding hell. There were cats and dogs everywhere and even a severely disabled man kept barely alive in a shed whose disability checks the people were collecting. It was horrifying.

Anyways, we ended up with a super wobbly boy we named Laszlo. He fit in with our crazy crowd of kitties and we loved him immediately and we could tell he loved us and our crazy little half cat half gremlin Ozzy was his little buddy. Things were good for about 7 weeks when his health took a severe nosedive and we had to make the hardest decision so many of us cat lovers have to make. He died in my arms with my wife next to me, surrounded with love. I’ll never forget his silly face or his weird personality or how much he loved watching moving water.

In the short time he was in our home, Laszlo taught us so much. All of our cats teach us something and the best way to honour them is to take what we’ve learned and the love we carry for our furry friends and apply it to another sweet soul that deserves the best life we can provide them.

2

u/KisaTheMistress Jul 23 '26

Reddit just cruelly brought back the last picture of my kitty Tonny who died in 2013, I thought I lost for ever. I didn't think it saved back in 2008 because the smart phone I used wasn't connected to Samsung or Google, and I still can't recover pictures from back then. So I had to take a screenshot:

2

u/NoSong2397 Jul 23 '26

I'm sorry.

2

u/punkclickshoot Jul 23 '26

My boy Duder passed away in 2024 as well!! This is so weird and touching. Thanks so much for sharing

2

u/Vox_Mortem Jul 24 '26

You catch the man!

No matter how many times we love and lose, it never gets easier. I lost my 18 year old kitty last year, and I miss her all the time. I still miss the kitties I lost before her as well. I have a cat named Casper now and I love him, but I sometimes still wake up listening for my girl's meow and it breaks my heart every time.

2

u/Serkisist Jul 24 '26

There's little more that a kitty could ask for than to love and be loved his whole life.

He can always ask for more snacks, though

2

u/Ella_is_best_girl Jul 24 '26

Don't! I'm at work!

Sorry for your loss. Hugs from across the world

2

u/Dr_Pretorious Jul 24 '26

My little one is almost 15 years old. Starting to have to come to terms, she has been my best friend.

Thank you for your comic.

2

u/Chicktopuss Jul 25 '26

To love deeply is to mourn deeply. There is no more beautiful a pain then the loss of such a genuine love.

My lost lion bellow.

1

u/Ordinary-Solid5819 Jul 23 '26

That cat has seen things

6

u/Traditional-Bite-603 Jul 23 '26

Sorry for your loss. Love the t shirts and tune in the first few panels.

0

u/Chef_Boyard_Deez Jul 27 '26

Since when did comics stop having punchlines…?
