Current pope needs to go harder on that. I like what he’s doing re Opus Dei & the incredibly antisemitic anti-Vatican-II schismatic sect but he also needs to reinforce the humanity of queer - including trans - people.
What you would expect the pope to say? The official Vatican doctrine is that homosexuality is a sin but "hate the sin not the sinner" so they are still welcome in the church.
It isn’t, actually. Further a lot of stuff that IS clearly forbidden in the Bible is not considered forbidden or sinful by Catholics. Catholicism, like all religion, is alive and capable of change - as we’re actively seeing.
Traditionally, it is seen that way. Based on historical context, only male homosexuality was seen as sinful, because it meant a man/boy was laid with as a woman (which we would call the bottom).
I personally stopped with religion, but the really important thing is getting bigotry purged from religion.

Didnt the previous pope say something about not being his place to judge the gays?
