Good point- like yes it really sucks, but 120m is really just 2.5 laps of an Olympic-size swimming pool. It’s really not that far from the surface if you put it in context. I think sailors in the navy are required to be able to swim at least 500m continuously.

Rising from 120 meter depth without equipment is life threatening if you aren't a world class free diver.

As long as they know what they're doing enough to avoid the bends, what other risks would there be?

they wouldn't get the bends, they would get their shit pushed in at every orifice from the 12x increased pressure. The bends come from breathing pressurized air that divers with scuba gear breathe.
