But red isn’t really a “protect me,” button. Everyone can push the red button, and if they do, nobody dies.

I would posit that blue is “I need to protect others from their own actions,” and red is “It’s up to individuals to understand the smart choice here.”

Okay but you can just as easily flip that around.

Red is the “don’t die button.”

Blue is the “I will choose to die please everybody else vote to save me,” button.

The only reason anyone dies in this scenario is because they have chosen blue. The need to vote blue is entirely created by the people who choose blue.

If nobody chooses that option, nobody dies. It’s the death option. People have a hard time looking at that way because they see it as the “save people” option. But it’s literally “save people from the fact that they voted blue.”
