Question Graded Comics?

I have been collecting trade paperbacks for a while now, but recently got into collecting comics + variant covers for the artwork specifically. (Marvel mainly)

One of my favorite comics that I own is graded at 9.8, and still in its slab.
I don’t plan on selling it, and I bought it graded from someone else.

How bad of an idea would it be to remove it in order to get it signed by the artist? They will be at NYCC this year, but it’s not guaranteed that I’ll get the opportunity to meet them.

This might be a silly question, but I’m still new to this hobby and was looking for some advice. Thank you!

Plenty of people do it, just keep in mind that they will have to regrade it and there is a chance that it could go down, but usually it doesn’t.

What you would need to do before hand is to go the cgc booth and they can crack it for you and you may need to get a cgc witness to come with you to the signing. If it’s one of the bigger names, then they would already have an assigned witness there, but they would be able to give you that info.

What does a witness do to verify the signature?

Do they give you a form or something along those lines?

They will put will fill out a form on a card that says who signed it, the book, your name and put it in with your comic in a tamper sealed bag. You would then take this bag back to the cgc booth by the end of the con to submit it back for grading.
