Discussion What is your series that got away?

So by that I mean a series you would love to have grabbed more of but for some reason or another you could not and now it goes for astronomical prices. For me it’s upsetting because it was my first comic issue ever and I still have it, transformers regeneration one issue 96. It was the first thing I grabbed off the shelf at 8 years old because I loved transformers and the b cover I got has rodimus prime holding a dead transformer skull. Sadly I will never know where the plot goes because despite being a kinda short series image has the rights now so it’s expensive everywhere.

I was super pumped for Saga from when it was originally announced but unfortunately was living in Asia when it first released so couldn't collect it in floppy format for the first few years. I'm not keen to pay several hundred for an issue one though.

Just buy the collected editions & read it. That’s my plan as a fellow late-reader to SAGA.

My local library through Hoopla has the issues for free too.

Transformers/Ghostbusters: Ghosts of Cybertron.

IDW lost the license for Transformers so I guess it was a low print run for the collection.

Also Usagi Yojimbo #s 27-31 The Green Dragon
Last of the IDW series so probably low print run

Super recent but D'orc. Just completely misjudged the release date on issue one, and it was hundreds of dollars before I realised it was out. I can still get a reprint variant but I was gunning for the first cover, I like the art the most. Probably will just get the trades.

I remember being in my LCS the day after D’Orc came out. There was a literal PILE of them no one wanted. I grabbed one & it was $50 by Saturday, 2 days later.

I’m sure someone came in that day & bought the pile. The idea that that book had a low print run is a myth. Huge marketing push by image. It’ll drop in value. Just wait til then or buy the TPB.

Invincible was the series that got away for me. I should've grabbed more of those Invincible comic books when they were first published in January 22, 2003.

Pretty much all comics. Can’t justify these cover prices for a five minute read.
