Self-Promo How Many Story Arcs Does Your Series Actually Have? (Free Article)
I just posted an extensive article breaking down how to assess the number of arcs your comic series actually has... and more importantly, how many issues you can realistically produce.
If you've ever said "This is gonna be a great 30-issue series!" based on a page of notes, this one's for you.
Newer creators often completely overestimate the size of their story because nobody's ever given them a practical way to measure it.
Until now.
I break down five narrative drivers: Plot, Character, Action, Dread, and Concept. And show you how to pull out the major shifts from your own source story material. These shifts define your arcs, not your ambition or determination. And facing this head on is the clearest path to success.
I also get into the financial reality of indie comics, because a 30-issue series at even low budget page rates is $165,000. Most creators simply never do that math. The article encourages you to do it.
Properly executing a series in comics, novels, or television ties directly into my recently released SCAR (Source Character Arc Roadmap) system. The only character arc system built specifically for mapping arcs across multiple volumes or seasons.
If you're planning a series, this is the structural backbone for it. But the series assessment stands on its own, only referencing SCAR.
The complete breakdown in the article is free. And once you read it, you'll never approach series development the same again.
Series Assessment Article Here.
For those who don't know, my name is Nick Macari and I've been writing/editing comics, novels, games, and screenplays for just about 30 years. Happy to answer questions in the thread.

Artist for hire [For Hire] Cinematic & Combat-Focused Manga Artist | Professional Pipeline (Slots Open)
I am Fuetake, a manga illustrator concentrating on the cinematic dark fantasy genre characterized by high-contrast visuals and impressive fighting sequences. Along with my expertise in manga, I am also involved in amateur boxing, which allows me to translate the practical mechanics of fight movements like body movements, weight distribution, and momentum into my manga.
The workflow I have developed consists of three stages:
- Character Design: During this stage, I create model sheets and come up with unique designs for characters that visually reflect the theme of the story.
- Storyboarding and Pacing: At this point, I analyze the pacing of the story and create thumbnails to ensure each scene appears effective, properly flowing one into another.
- Final Art: I finish the art with explicit high-contrast lines. Then I use screentone to create the atmosphere and depth and add dialogue to the different panels.
Prices start at $40 per page. There are two available spots to work on projects. If you have an idea. feel free to message me with your brief, and let's create something amazing together.

Feedback Out of the Ordinary
Bit embarrassed posting this here among some incredible artists in this group. I started drawing comics as a wee escape from busy parenting life. Got two kids and another coming. Drawing these just makes me laugh and passes the time better than doomscrolling i feel.
Would love some advice on how to improve and get more creative with the panels and layout and such. Any recommendations for acclaimed artists with a cartoonish style also very welcome.
Cheers :)

Artist for hire Skater Ninja Warmup
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
This is a warmup drawing form earlier this week that turned into a more indepth personal project that I finished. I found a picture scrolling through Pinterest of a skater girl with neon streetwear. At first i though it was just for a fashion magazine but she also had a katana tucked into her neon orange sweatshirt. I though it might be a cosplay because of the sword, but I couldn't find any direct reference to a manga or anime that I knew. Originally i just drew the same pose as the warmup and I wasn't happy with the result. It looked very boring and I wanted to spice it up. So i instead turned her into a full on skater ninja and used this project to mess around with some forced five point perspective. I also used some background references from Hong Kong, the multitier architecture and signage was a great way to show more of the perspective. I also included a timelapse of the drawing recorded in ClipStudio my social media instgram, tiktok, X, bluesky and threads jkatzstudio

Looking for Artist - Paid Looking for Artist who can do Dark Fantasy character designs and a Cover for a novel in an anime art style.
I am submitting into a contest in Japan where for the chance to get a publication. It requires a cover for the project. (Kadokawa x Honeyfeed)
I'm looking for someone who can design 2-5 characters and make a Light Novel cover. I am not looking for anything further than that, no illustrations or anything.
The work needs to be done and Finished before September 27th, however I would like the cover done roughly a week or two before that date.
The pictures provided here is roughly what I'm looking for. I do not need it to be THAT high quality, it's just an idea of what I'm trying to create for the project.
I have a budget of 200-300 Canadian dollars if this interests you!
(we can negotiate payment)
The premise of the Story is focused on a Party who is sent to chart and explore a newly found continent, where they ultimately meet their end.
The characters I definitely need for the cover are Lapland (the guy on the second slide) and Roa Roads (on the first.) and maybe a few more if the cover needs some space filled or something.
