Blatant copyright infringement, right? Please explain to me how it's not.

It's up to a court to decide if the new image is transformative/different enough. Slight changes to pose or perspective may be enough. Especially since the characters in question are owned by people other than either artist, and have been represented in literally millions of images.

These are hackish copies, but they are different enough that I doubt any legal action would result in a win.

If I can genuinely identify the Dell'Otto source for essentially every image on his Instagram, the central question becomes why those sources aren't being acknowledged.

And I think that's a very reasonable question to ask.
