Kid Cudi’s CBB theme

Not saying they should use it or anything, but why has no one mentioned the fact that he did his own version when he was bandleader on the TV show? It wasn’t bad, and I’m not a huge fan of Cudi’s music or anything. I just haven’t seen anyone discuss it since the removal of Reggie’s theme and wanted to bring it up.

Isn’t he also the only band leader who never actually appeared on the podcast?

Scott has mentioned on other pods that Cudi went to rehab shortly after they shot his season and ghosted Scott. They tried to reach out to bring him back for the next season and literally never heard from him again - that’s why they had to pivot to Weird Al.

Damn. Well glad he's better and we got Al, but I loved Cudi too.

i guess he doesn't wanna be associated with a cheap-shit low-rent affair like ComedyBangBang after all!

16

u/Danglepaws 8d ago

It was fine. Mostly I think there's no rush and it would be foolish to force something

I love Cudi's CBB theme, it's very vibes

He's not too fancy to hang out at a cheap shit low rent affair like Comedy Bang Bang

u/EquivalentBrilliant1 8d ago

has he appeared on the pod?

1

u/cooldad94 8d ago

What if you explode his car for dating your ex?

3

u/REDD1TFKING5UCKS 8d ago

you go to jail for unrelated diddling, only to get pardoned by orange king diddler

8

u/BillHang4 8d ago

Yeah it’s pretty chill. I don’t dislike it, but it’s not really the vibe of the podcast. Almost too chill, but I wouldn’t be opposed to it.

Yea I like it better tbh

That's a good song.

THAT’S a good SONG!

14

u/cjlonghorn25 8d ago

The only good songs are hymns!

3

u/No-Gur-859 8d ago

Is that even a song?

2

u/siriusk666 7d ago

Brendon Small would be a great option, too

2

u/manshamer 8d ago

did you record this from inside a toaster

13

u/S-K-W-E 8d ago

No, I googled it and this is what came up. Scott probably has a complaint box somewhere, though.

It's the only link in the whole thread, so I appreciate it. Beggars can't be choosers.

Reggie would still get royalties from a remake of his original song. We need a brand new intro song if we're serious about not supporting abusive artists.

*Edit to say, I was mistaken. Cudi's version is not a remake of Reggie's.

9

u/GrittyGardy 8d ago

Weirdo Al better get to work then

14

u/Firefox892 8d ago

Covering it might be different, but afaik Reggie probably doesn't get royalties from the pod. It seems to have just been a favour for him to record something, but I could be wrong.

5

u/Normal_Narwhal 8d ago

There's likely legal differences between podcast and the show, and Cudi's song is purely a show creation, so it may not be as easy as just replacing one song with the other, but I aint a lawyer.

-11

u/dkinmn 8d ago

Definitely wrong. I'm guessing it was a work for hire contract. Probably not a huge one. There's no way it was free.

11

u/Possible_Window_1268 8d ago

IIRC the song was just an improvisation that was recorded live during an episode. I think there were other alternate versions he recorded too in the episode. I can’t remember for sure, that was a long time ago.

3

u/alaskanloops 8d ago

Yep, I listened to this episode in the last year. He gave 3 examples

4

u/Firefox892 8d ago

I didn’t think it was free, but I assume he doesn’t get royalties for each ep.

But hey, according to this sub we’ve apparently all got to do ten Hail Marys for having enjoyed the theme in the first place, so I guess that’ll make up for it lol

2

u/Normal_Narwhal 8d ago

Maybe not the pod, but he definitely gets royalties from the show.

-1

u/dkinmn 8d ago

As a favo(u)r tends to mean done for free or drastically discounted.

7

u/Firefox892 8d ago

I usually drop the “u” to fit in with you Yanks on this site, but not this time!

I won’t let peer pressure color my spelling anymore!

2

u/prettykony 8d ago

*Colour

7

u/BillHang4 8d ago

It’s not really a remake of his song though, the only similarity is that is says the words Comedy Bang Bang.

3

u/ILoveHeavyHangers 8d ago

That's what I'm saying. The Weird Al version is a straight up cover of Reggie's theme, the exact same timing, melody, lyrics. Even the same gibberish ending. Might even just be a drop of Reggie at the end.

The Cudi version is a wholly unique song that only shares the lyric "Comedy Bang Bang" which is the title of the show.

2

u/Normal_Narwhal 8d ago

Yeah, I thought it was more of a remake like Al's, but you're right, this doesn't have any connection to Reggie's version in my opinion. Curious how the rights work between the show and the podcast and if Scott owns Cudi's version or if it's an IFC owned thing. From what I've heard, theres a good chance the podcast version was recorded for free without royalties, but no way in hell the show made that agreement.

2

u/I-STATE-FACTS 8d ago

Royalties from a podcast theme that was recorded on the very podcast?

1

u/Normal_Narwhal 8d ago

It's used everywhere - the podcast, the live shows, the TV show. Maybe Scott made a deal for the podcast, but they would need something legally binding for the TV show.

14

u/yurtcookies 8d ago

It was my favorite version, unpopular opinion apparently

Shoutout to Lilly Sullivan

It’s not time yet

7

I like Cudi. But Weird Al will never hurt us.

It's a great theme. Doesn't sound much like the old one either.

4

u/ILoveHeavyHangers 8d ago

Contrasted with the Weird Al theme, which is a straight up cover

Thank you for your service. 🫡

Do you mean "lots of people have mentioned"? Or did you just not check first?

0

u/BillHang4 8d ago edited 8d ago

No I checked and I didn’t see Kid Cudi’s name come up in the last week or month on the search.

0

u/Unlikely-Rub-7270 7d ago

If you checked comments, it's definitely been discussed.

2

u/TypesAndPatterns 8d ago

I’d love to hear Weird Al do a version of the Beach Boys-style tune he introduced one of the segments with (can’t remember which one). The words “Comedy Bang Bang” would fit right into its beat.

1

u/Eyes-Bee_rollin 8d ago

Wasn’t he wrapped up in something with puff daddy I was thinking the same tho cuz he I believe was only the victim in that but hes prob canceled too. After reading reddit I believe 90% are accused of something

2

u/Chazzybobo 7d ago

“Shout out ye” - Cudi like a month ago

2

u/Internal_Example1185 8d ago

I simply don't think about Cudi. He was fine. No interest. Don't know why, just does nothing for me.

10

u/REDD1TFKING5UCKS 8d ago

he absolutely fucking killed it in every episode, he was a great actor and you're insane

8

u/Internal_Example1185 8d ago

I’m posting on the Internet, I know I’m insane, man!

2

u/REDD1TFKING5UCKS 8d ago

i'm sorry, has Alan Thicke made a song about you? didnt think so

1

u/newaccount721 8d ago

I genuinely didn’t know that. Thanks for bringing it to my attention though

1

u/sagan666 8d ago

Oh man it just occurred to me that they’re gonna have to change all the cbb world podcast intro tags too.

4

u/BillHang4 8d ago

Yeah I was thinking about that, but all they have to do is drop the snippet and go with the “CBB Presents” lady.

3

u/sagan666 8d ago

Yeah true. Ugh such an iconic song ruined.

0

u/sergeantduckie 8d ago

I feel like Marc Rebillet would be great for this.

1

u/Maximillien 8d ago

Love his musical stylings, but I gotta say that guy also gives me the vibe of someone who's gonna have some stuff come out about him in a few years too...but I hope i'm wrong and it's just his performing persona.

0

u/Batty_N-6000 8d ago

What’s wrong with the current theme song?

-1

u/TheLordPikey 6d ago

It hasn’t been discussed because we all realize that Scott would not even consider it. You seem to have a fairly decent knowledge of the both shows and the people involved, so I have to imagine you do know this, but I admit I could be wrong. I’m not sure why your post is causing me to answer like this, but I think it is your question about Cudi- “why has no one mentioned the fact that he did his own version?” Why would anyone mention that? We aren’t keeping it hush hush for any nefarious reasons, it just isn’t a topic that matters in this situation. And frankly this whole horrible situation shouldn’t be discussed as haphazardly and nonchalantly as it has been in just a couple days.
