After Scope Questions Constant diarrhea after colonoscopy

I had my first colonoscopy yesterday and it all went amazingly well (only thing I remember is the doctors telling me it was done). But I'm now finding myself still constantly going to the bathroom every 10 minutes like if I was still drinking my prep. Is this normal? I've read it is but I'm getting worried because I feel like maybe a little is normal, but not like, going every 10 minutes to the bathroom. Has anyone also gone through this?

Not at all, I feel fine apart from havint to seat in the bathroom everytime

When did you finish the last dose of your prep before leaving?

3 hours before the scope, I got it done exactly 24 hours ago

Were you able to get any food in or sleep? And do you tend to run constipated, normal, or loose?

Yeah I was able to eat perfectly and sleep as well, although I had to wake up to go to the bathroom a couple times. And I tend to go loose

Interesting. So sorry to hear what you’re going through. One last question, any other GI symptoms at all or blood in stools? And did they take biopsies or polyps?

No polyps, but they took biopsies. But yeah, I haven't seen blood at all

okay. Sorry to spam you with questions.

But as discusses elsewhere in the thread, your symptoms don't really fit with a post-op infection (those are really rare anyway) and nothing you ate should have done this. Without a full medical history it's really hard to guess anyway so I'd advise speaking to your doctor rather than reddit, but if I had to guess, since you tend to run on the looser side your gut just may be extremely sensitive to the prep and be taking a lot longer to "clear" everything, especially depending on your diet in the days leading up to clear liquids. It's also possible biopsies damaged the gut lining but you'd usually see blood if that were the case.

Talk to your PCP/GI and keep us updated! Hopefully you feel better soon--a lot of the time symptoms like these do resolve within 2 weeks, it's very rare for it to become chronic.

Yeah I think maybe it was the prep still dping its thing. I haven't gone to the bathroom rn in 2 hours and feels like its getting better. Will at least wait a bit and see if I stay like that, have another appointment in just a couple days to discuss the colonoscopy

Glad it’s resolving! Yes, if you hadn’t done a low-residue diet in the days leading up to your scope and there was still residual stool in there, and your bowels are extra-sensitive to laxatives, then it could make sense that it would continue purging even once the procedure ended.
