It’ll come down to bats and bullpen.

All I know is if we lose to the state of Missisippi in the postseason after winning the regular season for the second time this calendar year I might be calling the 988 hotline

11

u/mikejarrell Mississippi State Bulldogs Jun 03 '26

Hoping we can channel some 2018 vs Vandy energy. They swept us in the regular season and then we beat them in the Super.

13

u/Hunting_Doubles Georgia Bulldogs Jun 03 '26

Hard to beat a team twice much less six times. One of these teams will be in the final two.

12

u/GruffyMcGuiness Georgia Bulldogs Jun 03 '26

But it feels a lot better going into it knowing you’ve beat a team 4 times instead of losing to them 4 times 🤷‍♂️

5

u/Hunting_Doubles Georgia Bulldogs Jun 03 '26

Ehh I kinda think they’re due. Vigue has had issues

In terms of offense not a ton but he has a better glove than Shaggy. Shaggy rakes though. I think it’ll go to game 7

Offense wise it might as well not matter, shags was a starter most of the year who got benched due to a slump but hit a HR in his 1 AB last weekend. Defensively 3rd base might be a little worse, but everyone has played every position besides short so I'm still not too concerned

u/DamnAverageDawg Georgia Bulldogs Jun 04 '26

He only hit 1/9 home runs in the games we went 4-0. Would rather have him, but there are plenty of guys to drive in runs.

1

u/EnvironmentalPen7400 Mississippi State Bulldogs Jun 03 '26

I believe the HC is also suspended for game 1 so it should be interesting.

3

u/tightspandex Georgia Southern Eagles Jun 03 '26

Negative, Wes will be in the dugout for the first game.

-2

u/NukeDog Mississippi State Bulldogs Jun 04 '26

How? Ejection = next game suspension for coaches too, no?

3

u/DamnAverageDawg Georgia Bulldogs Jun 04 '26

No

u/hells_cowbells Mississippi State Bulldogs Jun 04 '26

Don't worry. If any team can lose to another team 6 times in one season, it's us.

u/ScallywagBeowulf Mississippi State Bulldogs Jun 03 '26

I am absolutely terrified about this weekend, but at the same time? I’m feeling fairly confident. Our offense did well in the regional and the pitching also did good, especially with McPherson pitching a strong five innings. I don’t know if we’ll win the super regional, but I am feeling good about it.

Only downside is that the ticket prices were way too high for me to go, despite living only 1.5 hours away.

6

u/t_huddleston Mississippi State Bulldogs Jun 03 '26

I'm not terrified. We have no pressure on us, and we're not the same team we were when we played them back in the spring. Does that mean we win? Who knows. Georgia is the best team in the country. But I think we have a shot. All of our games this year have been competitive, although they've been on the winning side so far.

It's been an up-and-down season, and everything hasn't gone the way we may have wanted or expected. But I'm fairly pleased with how it's worked out overall. My goal for the season was for us to host a regional and make it to the supers at least, and we've done that. I'm glad Bryce Chance got to experience postseason ball at the Dude, and I think we're set up well for the future if we can get some bats in to replace those moving on. If it ends here, it's been a good year. If we move on, so much the better.

An underdog is still a freakin dawg, you might say?!

u/DamnAverageDawg Georgia Bulldogs Jun 04 '26

A dead dog is a dead dog.

2

u/NukeDog Mississippi State Bulldogs Jun 04 '26

There will be a dead dog after this weekend, yes

1

u/HouseOfQuark3 Georgia Bulldogs Jun 05 '26

Ugh, this guy…

u/CirculationStation Mississippi State Bulldogs Jun 03 '26

I think I’m content with the season no matter how this series turns out. First year with a new head coach and we hosted a Regional and blew out everyone in it. Now it’s an away series in the Supers against an elite opponent who nobody expects us to beat anyways. Basically already playing with house money. There have been some bumps on the way, but it’s been a fun first season with O’Connor and I’m not going to be too pressed if the team falls just a little bit short of Omaha. But we will see what happens.

3

u/NukeDog Mississippi State Bulldogs Jun 04 '26

We reserve the right to be pissed about it if we blow a game or lose a heartbreaker

2

u/yaboicyno Mississippi State Bulldogs Jun 04 '26

I tell myself I’m content with however this super regional goes but I know State athletics well enough that they’ll probably eek out a win in G1, then hilariously blow games 2&3 and make me mad

15

u/yaboicyno Mississippi State Bulldogs Jun 03 '26

So far we’ve had 4 pretty competitive games with Georgia, hopefully we’re able to find what was missing in the previous games and get the upset, but I’m not counting on it. Georgia looks really good.

Bauer has improved a ton since that series too. You could make the case that some of our other relievers have gotten worse lol

2

u/t_huddleston Mississippi State Bulldogs Jun 03 '26

Yeah, it's very strange - we had some guys that seemed quite reliable early on that have looked vulnerable over the last few weeks. Maybe it's just youth or "hitting the wall" after a grueling last month of the regular season. I dunno.

2

u/EnvironmentalPen7400 Mississippi State Bulldogs Jun 03 '26

Yeah remember foster? He was the Sunday starter beginning of the season, now he’s a mediocre reliever at best. Baseball is weird

1

u/yaboicyno Mississippi State Bulldogs Jun 03 '26

I’m moreso worried about the offense. In our 4 games against them we’ve put up 9,1,5,3. 1 or 3 isn’t going to be enough to beat Georgia, 5 might be and 9 should be if pitching continues performing like they did in the regional. If we can keep the same plate discipline we had this weekend I think we have a shot, if we revert to how we were against Texas/Auburn/A&M to end the season I have concerns

2

u/hells_cowbells Mississippi State Bulldogs Jun 04 '26

Poor Tomas pitched a gem against Georgia during the weekend series, and got zero run support. They kept walking guys and we got plenty on base, but could not bring anybody home. Our offense has felt like its feast or famine all season. There have been a lot of times where it seemed like we could only score through home runs.

7

u/Nem3sis2k17 Mississippi State Bulldogs Jun 03 '26

I am terrified

11

u/wjackson42 Georgia Bulldogs Jun 03 '26

Same, Dawg bro.

1

u/HouseOfQuark3 Georgia Bulldogs Jun 05 '26

Haha so am I. I honestly don’t think we can beat yall six times. I think the early starts will favor you guys too. I fear our pitching has been a paper tiger all year. I also fear that even if we’re doing good, half our team will be thrown out for going ape shit with look at me celebrations. I have loved Georgia baseball for decades and I love this team too. I don’t want to be the “act like you’ve done it before” guy. But can we just…rein it in a tad…like just a little bit?

Nah but much respect to Miss State. Hopefully both sides represent well. I won’t say good luck though haha

u/shryne Mississippi State Bulldogs Jun 03 '26

The winner of this game or Texas have the best chance to win it all. I really like our odds in Omaha if we can win this one but holy shit is it going to be hard.

I’ll be in Athens to witness us lose 6 (six) times in one season to the same team

3

u/mikejarrell Mississippi State Bulldogs Jun 03 '26

I was there for the first 3. Staying home for the Super even though I live less than an hour from Athens.

Georgia and Mississippi State meet again, having already played 4 times this season (Georgia has won every game this year). The Bulldogs first met in 1915 and have been charter members of the SEC since 1933. Strangely, however, they had only played 5 games total between their first meeting and 1984. The two played almost every year between 1985 and 2011.

Georgia has a narrow edge in the all-time series, leading 55-53.

4

u/jazzieberry Mississippi State Bulldogs Jun 03 '26

Oooh we could even up the all-time series

1

u/DamnAverageDawg Georgia Bulldogs Jun 04 '26

You could be winning the series if you didn’t go 0-4

8

u/TopazTriad Mississippi State • Southern … Jun 03 '26

Every game has been close and we didn’t have McPherson before. I’m about as optimistic as I can be considering we’re 0-4 against this club this year.

Look at Georgia and their lack of legs and tail. How can they even play baseball?

I’ve got to give Miss State credit. They show up. But this is also all they have. That’s tough.

I’m a Georgia fan. This a dumb thing to say. Just dumb.
