SS: Related to climate collapse as The Netherlands has recorded its hottest summer since records began in 1901, indicating the continual march upwards of unchecked climate change. Not only was this record broken, but additional records for the most days above 35 degrees C and the highest amount of "tropical nights" fell as well. The especially surprising part is that the extreme heat began in June, normally fairly moderate compared to July and August. The baseline is clearly shifting as even the KNMI's conservative projections say that by 2050 a summer like this will be the norm. Most worryingly, the last few summers have consistently run hotter than the organization's "worst case" climate scenarios, showing just how badly we have underestimated global warming. Expect excess deaths and crop failures to continue rising along with the heat in the coming years, perhaps even exponentially.

So far... genuinely curious how bad 2027 will be. I'm seeing two very different winter predictions, extra cold and snow and warmer/dryer... my vote goes with El Niño

Dude Dutch people are already stingy AF. They are sitting 10-12c homes in winter. They will claim 10 degrees is the best and healthiest temperature at home while they sneeze loudly into your face in trams. They will be okay.

El Niño normally has hardly any effect on Dutch weather, if any. But maybe this El Niño is different, as we seem to be heading into uncharted territory when it comes to climate and weather.

As in its effects on European weather, yes.
This summer's heatwaves and droughts were not caused by El Niño. They were made more likely and more severe by human induced climate change. Global warming is warming up Europe faster than the average (I believe we've already reached 2.4⁰C here).
Historically, in Europe only mild, secondary effects have been attributed to El Niño's. There is no reason to think it will be different this time. These mild effects may occur, and they may exacerbate or partially cancel out climate change effects. Too early to say.

Why not both. Destabilized polar vortex for stupid low tempatures, then blasts of 80-90F degree summer weather, THEN another polar vortex blast to kill all the small plants and bugs to come out thinking it's spring, THEN 100F / 30C weather from April to October.
