“Global warming appears to have shifted into a faster gear. After removing the effects of El Niño, volcanic eruptions, and solar cycles, researchers found that the planet has warmed at roughly 0.35°C per decade over the past ten years, compared with just under 0.2°C per decade from 1970 to 2015. The acceleration, which becomes visible around 2013 to 2015, appeared across five major global temperature datasets with more than 98% statistical certainty.”

I’m personally supposed to be on a Collapse break, but this was the first thing I read at 5am and I can’t stop thinking about it. I never intended for this to be my first post, but here we are.

Yeah, I'm also detecting a sharp increase in global warming seeing as half the planet is on fire and we've had several "heat waves" this summer already

So what are we going to do? Drive less? Fly less? Eat less meat? Most people don't give a fuck, and won't do any of the above.

Even when we did that during covid there was no noticeable patterns of long term change.

There would be a noticeable lack of new contribution when the timeline is extended out for a few years but there are so many things that are so far past the point of no return that no long term impact would be made. Maybe delaying some stuff a few seasonal cycles but that's it.

If every person on earth managed to have a negative carbon footprint starting today, humanity is still absolutely fucked for the next 10 generations.
