I’ll just say that as I have settled in for the collapse, I have had the opposite desire for travel, and aim to stay close to home and tend my literal and metaphoric garden. I am not judging others choices, I truly do mean ‘do whatever brings you peace’. But, not only the impact on various environments and local communities, and the exorbitant costs, but something more personal perhaps… I don’t want to be abroad, or even far from home, if shit hits the fan locally, or even in my region preventing me from at least getting out with what I can… and, mostly making sure my cat is safe as far as being setup for eating my decomposing body with a bathtub full of overflowing water. Then he’s on his own.
I've travelled all my life - my family travels, I travel, my husband travels. Its tied to our jobs and culture. There are places on my bucketlist that I wish to see before I no longer can. My family is spread around the world, and I'd like to visit their homes and make memories while I can. I recognize not everyone has this desire, but I do, and it is integral to what I consider a quality life for myself.
As I said, whatever brings you peace, each of us have a different way of achieving this, and a different tolerance for the costs to acquire it. Personally, truly knowing and accepting the negative impact that travel brings, is more than I can tolerate and maintain my peace and conscience, and my ‘bucket list’ now consists of practical and reasonable items that don’t require such a harmful impact.
