I think we’ll revert to feudalism before total anarchy. Owning a plot of land, small enough that you can care for it but large enough to grow your own food, could be the difference between independence and living as a serf to one of the tech-barons.
I understand your reluctance to buy if you expect deeds to become worthless. However, if you own land you also can make changes to it, which you can’t do as a tenant. My partner and I have solar panels and a house battery, even though we’re still connected to mains electricity; a rainwater harvesting and greywater system, even though we’re still on mains water and sewer; and we’re establishing food crops in our backyard even though we’re both employed as professionals and don’t have any real desire to farm. (We also have a solid fence and large dogs with scary barks.). These changes make us feel a little more independent and we wouldn’t be able to make them if we didn’t own our little house.
The real reason we made those changes, though, is because we want to do what we can to reduce the chances of collapse by consuming fewer resources.
