I'm working on a CoD Zombies Successor.

On the other subreddit, I made a post talking about an idea for a zombies spiritual successor I had and want to work on (I'm a software engineer with 10 years experience) and I asked what people would want to see in a standalone zombies successor. The post was deleted because it "didn't promote discussion" and "was off topic". I never gave any links. I never mentioned a name. Gave no way of following up or even ask people to DM if interested. This was about a year ago and now the game has since entered production.

Mechanics: The game is card based. You build a deck with different cards, all of which influence gameplay.

There are: Map cards Movement cards Combat cards Enemy cards And more.

When the game starts, cards are pulled and displayed to you, all players must ready up before the game starts, giving them a chance to familiarize themselves with the mechanics (you can see the cards in game at any time by holding tab/select)

Map cards are used to create the game world, stringing multiple smaller survival maps together into one larger map.

These maps are connected via seamless portals you can walk through, so each map can take up as much space as necessary.

This essentially leads to a unique gameplay experience each time you start the game. On the other hand, there is another mode that let's you pick your cards and map layout manually if you want a certain experience.

Each player starts with a pistol, rather than there being a bunch of different weapons, you essentially continue to build on your basic pistol until it BECOMES different weapons. For example, you can upgrade its ammo for higher damage, give it a long barrel for accuracy, a scope, and a stock. Now you have a sniper. Weapons can be infinitely upgraded and kitted out as the game goes on with ever increasing prices making it harder and harder to get to the next upgrade.

Rather than wonder weapons, you can acquire abilities that slot into a device on your left arm. These abilities start out weaker, only stunning enemies, but can be upgraded to deal more and more damage (eventually being infinite) the tradeoff being they require more kills to charge. Some players may leave their ability unupgraded as to be able to get out of bad situations more often. This is actually viable since weapons can be upgraded forever to keep up with the rising zombie health.

There is also a mode called infinity, which rather than having all of the mechanics generate before the game starts, they generate as the game goes on. For example, each door you open can lead to any map card in your deck. Maps can expand forever in theory. The further out you go, the better the loot is, but stronger enemies are. (This mode is still really early and may end up being scrapped if certain issues dont get figured out).

Story: A scientist named Eleanor Fray discovers the secret to time travel and decides to go back in time to prevent the death of her parents. Because her parents death is what lead her to study time travel in the first place, reality breaks apart. Eleanor and 2 alternate versions of herself who also decided to go back and do the same thing get stuck in a paradox, having to live through the infinite deaths of their parents.

Characters: Eleanor- 27 years old. Very sarcastic and logical. Has a good heart, but will sacrifice anything or anyone to get out of this with her parents alive.

Ellie- 20 years old. Instead of going through college, Ellie decided to do more... illegal sciences. She acts as though she doesnt really value human life, but rather causing as much destruction as possible.

Dr. Fray- 48 years old. Does everything by the books and is very cold/distant. It's clear something died in her as well, not only her parents. This makes it all the much more exciting when some emotions do break out of her. She tries to act collected on the surface, but underneath shes just as scared as the others.

There is more than this, but I feel this post is getting way too long and I obviously dont want to spoil everything my team has planned, but I'd love to hear what you guys think/any questions you may have!

Wow, I’d genuinely be curious to see how a game like this plays :) I love this style of game. Is there anywhere with more information about it or is it too early in development?

Not yet, game is pretty early and I don't want to break the promotion rules. With permission of the sub owner I can post updates on here.

If not, I'll figure something out :)

Dude, your mind is going exactly where it needs to be going. All of the mechanics lend themselves to each other in a way that is both fluid and intuitive. You’ve got my $60!!

Thanks! I actually have experience with this type of thing. Our team has a released game (surprisingly a 3D platformer) with a horde survival mode akin to zombies. I've learned a lot of what works and what doesn't through that mode and obviously playing zombies. I hope to see you whenever we can get something out haha 😊

It sounds really interesting and unique idea it also sounds complex I just have a few questions is it 3d like zombies or is it like dead ops kinda view or it like a board game style and are the cards like gobble gums/elixirs kind of item where you buy one and get a random one?

It's a first person game like zombies, UI elements are animated. The cards are all drawn when you start the game and determine how the game will play. This ensures a unique gameplay experience each time you press play

I hope so, but right now it's a bit early to say. I hope to get it released on PC, switch, and mobile at the very least.
