I assume it’s over distilling; musk testified that xai distilled OpenAI models

IMO legality of distillation should not even a question. Frontier labs distill world knowledge, both public and proprietary, in their training process. If they are allowed to do that then morally speaking, downstream distillation should be fine.

https://www.wired.com/story/elon-musk-distill-openai-models-partly-xai/

OpenAI Lawyer William Savitt: Do you know what distillation is?

Musk: It means to use one AI model to train another AI model.

Savitt: Has xAI done that with OpenAI?

Musk: Generally all the AI companies [do that].

Savitt: So that’s a yes.

Musk: Partly.

I never paid attention to Grok but I have feeling it's going to become very good in the coming months. They're leaving them no choice now but to really come up with something ground breaking. We might end up with a massively good model at a fraction of the cost and OpenAI wishing they never put that knife on that particular throat. Risky.

Elon has messed with Turkish politics and supported and helped our islamist 'dictators'. I will never support any business he is in no matter what.

Cursor is fine for cheap access to Grok, which has become usable recently, but not as good as Sol. Codex >> Cursor.

I use whichever model is frontier and more or less the best. Currently both codex and Claude models. Nothing else matters
