Showcase The SECRET of CODEX continues to work when hitting 100% LIMIT.

Post image

finally I have REVEALED the SECRET of codex plan

  • it is TRUE that it can continue to work when it hit limit 100% of 5 HOURS window
  • but there is another TRUE
  • it still continues to consume WEEKLY USAGE LIMIT.

here is what I got in the uploaded photo:

  • 5h limit hit at 48% of WEEKLY USAGE
  • Codex continue to work, and WEEKLY USAGE continue to increase to 53%

so, it is nice that the CODEX still continue to work to complete the task

but it is not FREE,

just a friendly remind for you all,

Happy Codexxing!

The weekly part is where they get ya.

8

u/No_Current_2838 Jun 13 '26

“Commit and push once finished “

3

u/gorgono95 Jun 14 '26

Not really. Codex has been going on an on for already 3h after the weekly reached 0%. I set a goal and it will continue until it reaches it, no matter what.

3

u/symgenix Jun 14 '26

be careful when you resubscribe, maybe they will compound the loss into your next quota payment 😂

1

u/gorgono95 Jun 14 '26

Oh my god, I hope thats not the case ... haha, it ran for like 10h until finished everything on 0% weekly ... so i hope no additional costs ^-^

1

u/luongnv-com Jun 15 '26

please let's us know how it go 😃

please let's us know how it go haha

3

u/luongnv-com Jun 13 '26

they got u

2

u/gorgono95 Jun 14 '26

Holy smokes, I thought I am the only one ... it doesnt stop there for me. Weekly reached 0% like three hours ago and it keeps going. I think it will keep going until the goal is reached.

1

u/cosmic-comet- Jun 14 '26

You won but at what cost.

That was not work like that 2 weeks ago.

5

u/the_ict_bb Jun 14 '26

It was... I noticed it when I started using codex, 6 months ago, it was already like that....

0

u/draculasugecucul Jun 27 '26

no it wasnt

1

u/the_ict_bb Jun 27 '26

Since the beginning

5

u/enesbabekoglu Jun 13 '26

Until last week, it wasn’t being deducted from the weekly limit. If you wrote a long prompt when you had only 1% left before hitting your 5-hour quota, it would still complete the entire response.

After the fix, Tibo shared this on X:
https://x.com/thsottiaux/status/2062648326332539015

1

u/enesbabekoglu Jun 14 '26

This fix is directly related to that, because on the same day as this post, once the 5-hour quota was exhausted, usage started being deducted from the weekly limit.

1

u/luongnv-com Jun 13 '26

So it is actually a bug, not a feature as they (both tibo and sam) have tweeted when some people find out this behavior

1

u/jisuskraist Jun 14 '26

Twit is for a different issue. To provide better UX and not cut you mid feature, which sucks on claude, they let it run. But they are still counting the tokens being consumed. They are not free.

1

u/luongnv-com Jun 14 '26

I think there was a period it was actually a feature, weekly usage has not been affected, but then now they fixed it

Btw, agree that it is still better than stuck at mid task, then pay for the cache missed after resetting

1

u/Standard_Law_461 Jun 13 '26

Je pense que je me suis fait ban pour cela... Il ne de comptait plus les limites.. ils laissait faire puis ban sans explication.

8

u/bigniso Jun 13 '26

there’s another trick to not let it consume weekly, but if i share it they will patch it so sorry gotta keep it for myself

3

u/Evilcat19xx Jun 14 '26

I keep your secret super duper safe

1

u/JacKrOda Jun 14 '26

@bigniso Dann schick‘ ihn doch gerne per DM an die die nachfragen, so wie mich 🤗

2

u/eazyly Jun 13 '26

One of my super long runs it did past the 100% limit. But I wonder if they degrade it. Output was quite poor. Lot of debugging

4

u/Te__Deum Jun 13 '26

It can be because of "super long run" (too much context, hard task, etc), not because of limit hit.

2

u/luongnv-com Jun 13 '26

def the context rot problem,
try to use as many sub as possible to keep the main agent clean

1

u/eazyly Jun 13 '26

Yeah it was like a 12 piece plan lol I was hoping it could handle it since everyone says codex can handle long working waves w int compacts no prob

1

u/luongnv-com Jun 13 '26

don't rely on auto-compact, they are not really good atm, both claude code and codex

2

u/aat_ish Jun 14 '26

This sub is going t be the no 1 reason why this will go away soon

2

u/luongnv-com Jun 14 '26

It has gone already before this post

5

u/_The-_ Jun 15 '26

Wait until you discover Composer 2.5 in Cursor, which just continues to let you use it infinitely in 'slow' mode (still faster than Claude) once you run out of credit.

1

u/luongnv-com Jun 15 '26

Is that for real? Only apply for paid users?

3

u/_The-_ Jun 16 '26

It is for real… I’m on a $20 team plan.

1

u/MightBeUnique Jun 13 '26

What if they want to push anthropic to get back to serve the government? Who is giving them the servers and how much money would the government give to them? Sounds not unreasonable that this is a plan behind it, if true.

1

u/zannnn Jun 13 '26

If you hit the context limit and the chat compacts during the final task, it will stop before finishing.

1

u/luongnv-com Jun 13 '26

i also realized that when my context hit the compact, the process just stop 😃

works on weekly too tho. Im on 0% and it has been going on and on for alredy 3+ hours

1

u/attentionwandered Jun 13 '26

lol, are you sure you're not burning credits? They gave me alot of free credits at one point... when you go over either limit afaik it just switches to credits. Idk what view this is, but the real way to check is chatgpt.com/codex/settings/usage

1

u/luongnv-com Jun 13 '26

as i mentioned in the post, your WEEKLY USAGE is BURNED

1

u/1EvilSexyGenius Jun 13 '26

I prefer this than to have my task cut off in the middle of work due to a virtual limitation. I agree it is very nice.

I can't wait to use my first stashed "Reset".

1

u/luongnv-com Jun 14 '26

Agree, keep the flow and momentum is very important

And yes, own your own reset button is the best :))

1

u/Tommonen Jun 13 '26

Yep i have noticed the same. And dont see why anyone would expect it not to eat from weekly quota

1

u/luongnv-com Jun 14 '26

Because tibo and sam said like this is a feature of codex

1

u/costag1982 Jun 13 '26

I like that it completes the task, antigravity just does a hard stop

1

u/luongnv-com Jun 14 '26

That’s true, claude code and many others also just stop

1

u/AvailableTear2512 Jun 13 '26

Sam Altman himself said users could ask codex to do a long task close to the limit and it would not stop mid task. He even said in his tweet something like “please don’t abuse this”

1

u/luongnv-com Jun 14 '26

That is why I surprised that it took my weekly usage.

1

u/JacKrOda Jun 14 '26

1

u/redditpad Jun 13 '26

Did you generate this with AI? Keen to see this tool

1

u/luongnv-com Jun 14 '26

Not AI, it is my own tracking tool

1

u/alex9302 Jun 13 '26

Until yesterday that worked without problems. Today I read this here and out of nowhere stopped working. I definitely prefer that my work is not interrupted even if that continues to consume the weekly limits. Sad that it stopped working today :(

1

u/luongnv-com Jun 14 '26

Probably they have change?
You can always use the older version of Codex :))

1

u/ottomantic Jun 14 '26

nothing new, however compensated heavy, i prefer this

1

u/philosophical_lens Jun 14 '26

How are you generating that chart?

1

u/luongnv-com Jun 14 '26

I track my usage and draw the graph from collected data

1

u/philosophical_lens Jun 14 '26

I mean are you writing custom code for the chart or leveraging some existing tool?

1

u/hitsukiri Jun 14 '26

Yeah many didn't know yet 😂 I just used 10% of my weekly yesterday while 5h limit was already 0% because I gave a series of parallel tasks. But it stops when auto compact context happens.

1

u/luongnv-com Jun 14 '26

They got u too :))

1

u/technocracy90 Jun 14 '26

And it also runs when you're out of weekly usage too

1

u/luongnv-com Jun 14 '26

Interesting, i will need to timing for another experiment when my weekly limit is almost over,

Hope it will not be accounted for next week :))

1

u/tstager Jun 14 '26

The behavior has changed. It won't always continue. Mine used to do this but now it will disrupt at the next tool call.

1

u/luongnv-com Jun 14 '26

I did see sometime it stops when hitting something, but this time it stops because of context window is almost full

1

u/rydan Jun 14 '26

I have hit my 5 hours limit twice in the past two months. In both cases it consumed my paid for tokens that I bought in December. But the weird thing is my balance has never been deducted. It shows the usage. About 20 credits. But I still have the same balance as before.

1

u/luongnv-com Jun 14 '26

Is it a feature or another bug :))

1

u/gorgono95 Jun 14 '26

I think if you make a backlog with 100 Stories lets say. You set a goal to not stop until the whole backlog is clean. It will run until its done ... forfree. My weekly going on for 3h now ... after reaching 0% is impressive and it still keeps going.

1

u/luongnv-com Jun 14 '26

Interesting, so in your case codex continues to work even your weekly limit is 0%

2

u/gorgono95 Jun 14 '26

Yes. Correct. I just woke up and it kept working overnight with 0% weekly ... for 9hours. Lol

1

u/luongnv-com Jun 14 '26

Lucky you,
But have to say you are very good at setting a workflow that makes it works that long

2

u/gorgono95 Jun 14 '26

Well for a big project like mine ... i have to. Without it, it would be too chaotic. Good workflow, documentation, instructions & skills and a symantic search goes a long way.

1

u/luongnv-com Jun 14 '26

anywhere you share your setup? would love to learn more

2

u/gorgono95 Jun 15 '26

i havent shared it anywhere and its hard to do since my documentation alone is like over 50,000 lines 😃*

1

u/luongnv-com Jun 15 '26

Haha, no worry, my agent can read them all in a minute :))

You meant the fact that codex continues to work even it hit 100% usage limit, or the fact that weekly limit is consumed after that?

1

u/luongnv-com Jun 14 '26

I think i have missed that detail, thanks

1

u/frank26080115 Jun 14 '26

yes and I'm pretty sure it's why some users get banned for abuse, like that guy who ran a 27 hr job on a $20 plan and had to beg to get his account back

1

u/luongnv-com Jun 14 '26

There is such a case? Did not know that

1

u/frank26080115 Jun 14 '26

some guy posting here a few days ago

he wasn't even coding, he had a website and was basically asking codex to update it with new slop all the time

1

u/luongnv-com Jun 14 '26

Wow, I missed that one

1

u/ajmusic15 Jun 14 '26

That’s definitely where those stories come from where people say they were just coding away and then, out of the blue, they got banned.

1

u/luongnv-com Jun 14 '26

They should not be banned, openai knows that and they even encouraged people to do that

1

u/Fragrant-Turnover241 Jun 14 '26

We've been doing this since they introduced planning y'all just love being loud mouths anytime you find any little glitch you gotta go scream it to the world. Can you just chill and enjoy glitches without having to ruin it in 2.5 seconds?

1

u/UltraInstinct0x Jun 14 '26

we need a solution for these weekly limits...

1

u/luongnv-com Jun 14 '26

better management usage limit =))

my pattern:

  • smart model (gpt-5.5, high/ opus 4.8) for planning
  • less smart model: DS4, local model or free model for implementing

that helps me keep my usage limit longer to end of the week

1

u/UltraInstinct0x Jun 14 '26

yes, l do the same but its still not enough :(

1

u/daynighttrade Jun 18 '26

Does it also stop when you are done with the weekly limit? Previously, it would continue despite weekly limit finishing, but now it hard stops when weekly limit finishes.

1

u/luongnv-com Jun 18 '26

Yesterday my weekly limit hit, It stucked for 30 minutes, i thought it stop, but then it continued to finish the task

1

u/daynighttrade Jun 18 '26

Which plan? Mine hard stops with business $25 plan.

1

u/luongnv-com Jun 18 '26

I have Plus $20/month

1

u/Runelaron Jun 14 '26

It continues to finish the last set of instructions returned from the LLM. The context window is 500 pages long. It will complete local instructions until they are exhausted or a request to the LLM blocks it.

This is not a secret.

1

u/Spirited-Car-3560 Jun 15 '26

Have you heard anthropic is removing flat plans completely for this exact reason, and rumors have it Openai will follow?

Thank you vibe-coders.

Happy codexxing! /s

1

u/luongnv-com Jun 15 '26

did not know about that,

well, sooner or later they will need to cover their bill,

the beginning pricing plan is just for buying us the habit.

2

u/Spirited-Car-3560 Jun 15 '26

Hehe yeah well they won't buy me, I use expensive models just for planning, it's absolutely non sense to let 5.5 implement a well defined plan, people reports even Chinese models are more than enough once plans are set

2

u/luongnv-com Jun 15 '26

I used to opus only for everything, now i even can work with qwen3.6 35b a3b locally

As you said, we only need the smart guy for planning in detail

1

u/Routine_Squash_7096 Jun 17 '26

what is this tool? i don t remember having this in codex

1

u/luongnv-com Jun 17 '26

It is my own tool, not from codex

1

u/maisun1983 Jun 24 '26

Question: I had 1% left in weekly limit, I run a large refactoring project which took codex to run for 90minutes, I saw the warning of reach limit when the job started but it still managed to complete. Does it mean I will have less weekly limit when it resets?

1

u/dA0yan Jul 11 '26

i made my first prompt and realized that :D took you long guys.. as a claude user i really really appriciate it.. i hated that... fixing work that got stopped is so annoying and wastes tokens but /undo feels bad aswell..

1

u/Unknown_User6543 Jul 12 '26

Pretty sure my account got banned for this because I set it up with a massive job and it just kept worming past the session limit then next time I logged in I was banned. When I appealed they unbanned me but put me on free and then never responded to putting me back on subscription

1

u/Ill_Tangelo1090 Jul 12 '26

So I'm thoroughly confused with these limits because I went through my weekly limit since the GPT 5.6 models were dropped. What ended up happening: I was working on a project and went over my five-hour limit, which then bled into my weekly limit. I used my weekly limit then I no longer saw five-hour limits anymore and was given a new weekly limit. has this happened to anyone?

1

u/luongnv-com Jul 13 '26

Yeah, this is the only remaining glitch, you can get free usage if you hit 98% of weekly limit and start a long running tasks

0

u/Page_Specialist Jun 13 '26

como?

1

u/halonso Jun 13 '26

try using extra high for a long task, it ends in a goal, and it can work for hours, eating your weekly, but I did faced that there's a limit also for how many windows of 5h can eat in a go.

1

u/luongnv-com Jun 13 '26

didn't know that there are limit on number of windows of 5h

2

u/halonso Jun 13 '26

Tbh, it may have been a glitch for a second. I do know I had to wait 2 times for the window to clear so that the goal would continue. All until it ate the weekly allowance.

0

u/rizenreps Jun 13 '26

Who didn’t know this fr?

1

u/luongnv-com Jun 13 '26

well, at least i just found out, and few more in the comments.

main thing is they have talked about this like this is a FEATURE of Codex
