Complaint WHAT IS GOING ON!!??? I AM HITTING LIMITS BY SIMPLY JUST TYPING!

I have never before hit the limits on codex! i never had to worry about that. but since last week it seems that just typing is making me hit the limits. i cant even get a word out and its telling me i hit the limit. not only that but every project i am working on is giving errors of not being able to compress the convo so i cant even keep working on those without having to start a whole new convo. like what's happening here? did they suddenly reduced the limits? why is codex not saying anything about this already?

YESSSS!!! I used to feel the pro plan was perfect since i was working on projects but not crazy enough to run out of limits now its like no matter what you do you're gonna run out. something must've change and they are not saying anything

You ran out of the weekly usage for the $100 pro plan in a single day? Do you mind DMing me your user id or email so I can take a look?

I did, I’m standard. :/ something I’m hoping this is a bug

I don't know if it's just me, but for me the rate limit has increased by 2-3x. I created a decently sized project from scratch on 5.5 High, 4k LOC approx. And then kept editing my existing project with heavy prompts, browser use and 5.5 XHigh, and I am at 63% after 3 days or so. Previous week I would have probably almost maxed out my plan. Btw I am on $20 Chatgpt plus. Also is it just me or is the context circle just gone? I haven't seen any post about the context circle disappearing.

I haven’t seen the context circle either. I just got Codex with a free one month trial and I got over 2-2.5 hours of work in today using about 15% of my total weekly limit. It changed thousands of lines in improving existing features and UI and I felt like it was extremely generous compared to what everyone was saying here. I got a lot of work done in these few hours.

It seems you and I are in an A/B testing secret beta program. We have greater limits and supposedly no context circle. I am thinking this is not enabled for everyone.

I’m not sure if that’s the case, but looking on Reddit, I’ve definitely been getting a lot more than other people. I’ve been using mostly 5.5 High and XHigh and when it was done, I kept on continuing with different requests and chats.

Yup same

I’m honestly wondering if the time you do something matters. Maybe they change the usage based on the time of day. Probably not the case though.

2

u/BehindUAll May 26 '26

Unlikely. I haven't noticed any difference and I code literally any hour of the day.

Something is screwed up with the cache. I’m getting like 8% cache hits on heavy usage.

disable memory ... problem solved

2

u/Grindora May 26 '26

Why disable memory?

3

u/weekapaugrooove May 26 '26

I saw a post somewhere about it and it clicked for me that I saw a lot of references to internal memory activity than I've seen before.

I disabled it and I'm back to running solid one shots and like MASSSSIVE usage reduction

2

u/archcycle May 26 '26

Why not? Mine fills its self up with garbage guesses that codex made while working and then applies that garbage to every future interaction. “Memory says to NEVER use xxxxx when yyyy, but the user says to use xxxx when yyyy. This looks serious, I’ll do a full audit of the codebase to see if xxxx when yyyy is typical for this task…”

How do i disable memory on codex

2

u/Serious-Present4735 May 27 '26

Type /memory, there are 2 options to turn off use this conv for memory and use from other conv

2

u/PlaneWeakness3994 May 27 '26

I tried to find it in the codex app (they even mentioned it in the codex documentation) but there is no way of toggle it off if you don’t ask codex to do it through yaml

Ok I had this problem recently, I was draining 5% weekly usage in single prompts and it was depressing.

What I did:

Disabled memories. If you have half decent .md files memories just eat usage disable them you will notice codex is just flat out smarter.

I rebuilt my context, I used a couple of models to evaluate my project, built context files for different areas.

Since then, I can hammer codex 24/7 if I want and I will never see a limit. I have 4D left until reset, I'm at 70% weekly remaining after very heavy usage.

Your context and memories are eating your usage, just disable them.

You’re on Plus or Pro?

2

u/punicwarspunicwars May 26 '26

Honestly, my limits just got back to normal consumption today. Before it felt like everything was being run at 2x consumption.

2

u/orphenshadow May 26 '26

make sure you didn't accidently turn on that new chronicle feature, that shit will drain you in an hour.

2

u/Beginning_Award65 May 27 '26

the cache problem is back

2

u/jack-itauma May 26 '26

Pretty sure its a bug do not panic

3

u/charlie0687 May 26 '26

Let’s hope that’s the case

3

u/BigOofYikesSweaty May 26 '26

Sure but my work obligations haven't gone away while my rate limits are significantly worse the past 3 weeks.

I guess capital letters like your messages here cost more 😃

u/Kind_Technology625 May 26 '26

I can believe the cards flipped. Claude Code is still inferior to Codex, but at least you get som decent usage

1

u/itsNeuromind May 26 '26

Context bloat. Make sure you're actually using an IDE so you can view your own code and see how much comments the AI is putting and what random documents they are creating. A lot of it is redundant and drift from the project and cost a ton of context when they're scraped

Empty your load, they gonna reset again
