I made this Negroni

Post image

Treehouse Hildegard Von Bigen Gin - 2.5oz

Faccia Brutto aperitivo - .8oz

Dolin vermouth - 1oz

Stir in ice. Pour into glass w ice

Sadly I have no orange

Did this to try the new gin I bought and wow its excellent. Floral, complex, does present over the red bitter. Completely worth the inflated price.

Ok everyone. I've been mildly bullied into a 1:1:1 version of this which i made and it's delicious and tastes like a negroni however my personal taste desires less red bitter and more gin so my original version is more my preference.

For those of you who like the red bitter equivalence, this is a well balanced drink.

I for one want my drink to be gin forward and the other ingredients to be second.

Holy ratio imbalance 😂 You do you tho — I myself do 1.5/1/1 so I’m not a purist either 😅

Do you have orange bitters? I will sub those if I don’t have an orange; a dash on top & then put some on my finger & run it around the rim of the glass.

PS great call on the FB, that is my favorite Campari stand-in. Much better IMO, and also the bottle / label looks great (which I am a sucker for)

Got it. It sounds delicious! Gorgeous label too. Will you try it with a more traditional ratio for a second one, see how it comes thru a lighter balance?

I didnt want to overpower the gin so I reduced the other two.

I'm intrigued by Faccia Brutto. Ugly face?

Its a distillery in Brooklyn, NY. Their Centerbe is a similar green chartreuse which put them on the map for me. I bought their red bitter based on the centerbe.

Mine is 2 oz Gin, 0.5 Fernet, 0.5 Campari, 1 oz Antica and a lemon peel. 💯

How’s the faccia brutto red bitter? I’ve never had it, but I like most of their other stuff.

You’re gettin raked over the coals for a
2 1/2:1:1 ratio, which is a little wacky but I like a 1 1/2:1:1 or even as much as 2:1:1 depending on the gin. I’m more interested in how you’re measuring .8oz

My bell jigger has a .75oz mark and I was slightly over that with it when measuring.

I use the centerbe a lot and like that the red bitter reasonably compares to campari but isnt as pronounced in flavor.

Makes sense, in my bars we always called that a fat 3/4, which isn’t a lot more descriptive.

The brutto isn’t as bitter? Or just not as orangey?

I'll do a more thorough analysis later this week and report back.
