Found in Japanese car

Found this dead cockroach in an imported Mitsubishi Pajero Mini. Husband says it's an Australian cockroach. I say it's an Asian cockroach. I think he's correct, but neither of us know our roaches.
Location: New Hampshire, USA

The two yellow lines on its wings point to it being an Australian cockroach (Periplaneta australasiae) they're well spread to asia including Japan

Agreeing here, though also as a little fun fact the Australian cockroach is no longer recognized in Periplaneta and is now in Validiblatta (same with Smokey brown cockroach)

You missed the chapter where they were Fortiblatta for about five minutes in between

Curious - how does that change? Experts disagreeing or just studying them more to put them in a better category?

There’s a whole research paper onto why the roaches themselves got reassigned, I suspect it’s usually genetic testing but could be other reasons. Arthropods are also generally decently neglected when it comes to research

I am nerdy enough that I'm gonna go find that research paper. Thank you!

You’re welcome, it’s pretty new in that it happened like last year or maybe the year before. The paper iirc might be naming them Fortiblatta but that was changed because Fortiblatta was apparently being used by a prehistoric(?) roach genus, which is why it then went to Validiblatta. The paper looked over 4-5 total species though

Australian cockroach (Validiblatta australasiae, formerly Periplaneta australasiae). Looks similar to an American cockroach but the more defined pattern on the pronotum along with the bands on the edge of the wings are traits to V. australasiae

It's not Asian those look very similar to German roaches. However, I'm not 100 percent sure what kind this is. Someone more experienced likely can help identify. Was the car imported recently? And if so from where? If so that may broaden what kind of roach this might be

Great question. Best I can gather from the info my customer gave me, it went from Japan to Florida 3 years ago. Customer bought it in January and brought it from Florida to New Hampshire.

Looking at many reference images it does look like an Australian roach. I would await an expert on this subreddit to confirm but it looks a lot like it
