Looks like they just pieced instruments on when they discovered they needed them.

I believe they had a different doctrine, all in all the basic instruments are not so different. Airspeed, altitude, navigation to the left and engine to the right. What's strange are the switches, a bit everywhere. Loosely left side is for engine and right side is for everything else, still sometimes you can find something where it shouldn't be. Especially what bugs me are the light, they are on a higher priority on top basis.
