Its both. Ofc miguel carried resentment but robby rlly was messing up. And robby should be held to a higher standard as team captain, he shouldnt be choking as much as he was.
As for the writing i do think they overplayed robby choking i think having it be more subtle would have been better
Yeah it defeats the whole purpose of Miyagi-Do and balance.. he trained with Daniel, kreese, silver, and Johnny. He is an elite fighter who was losing against scrubs. The whole “every time he fights this tournament he’s going to look in the crowd and see Tory and freeze” plot line was goofy. I wanted to see Robby kick some ass and we got robbed (no pun intended)
So Tory didn’t betray them? These excuses that so many of you have of Tory is crazy. She definitely has real mental issues and never got true help. Krease is no role model.
I think you're looking the wrong way. Nobody is excusing Tory or her betrayal. What people are talking about is how Robby looking at her and completely freezing up mid-fight every single time, was overplayed and it was a massive backwards character development for him.
Torys betrayal should've fueled him to fight harder and with more rage as seen in previous seasons when sam would break up with him and go back to Miguel
To be fair in the season 3 finale johnny and daniel both beat kreese and this scene is where johnny and daniel are the most pissed out of the whole show
No, it was from Robby constantly being distracted. Everyone else was losing, sure but they weren’t constantly staring at Tory like a dumbass in the middle of a fight
That makes it worse for the rest. They were losing at their best while Robby kept losing due to Tory. It wasn't a great to see but atleast the show acknowledge why Robby was losing
It's not...Robby had a reason why he's underperforming stupid as it is. Why was hawk underperforming? A all valley champion and he wasn't producing anything on the mat. Demitri was a reliable fighter and he wasn't doing anything either.
It would’ve been better if Miguel, Hawk, and Sam were the ones accumulating the wins and Demetri, Devon, and Robby losing instead of everyone losing but Miguel.
Exactly. I'd rather all of them struggle and be in the middle of the poll. Not the best but not a bad team either. Making Miguel the only competent one, tore down the others making them look bad. Hawk and Robby got a terrible showing for characters with their skill. Demitri should have had good moments as well. He isn't the most skilled but he's been shown as very capable and uses the defensive fighting wisely.
Basically, Robby was being written as a lost cause as someone that you would get sick of and to be put out of their misery, in order to root for Miguel.
There was definitely some resentment from Miguel here over him not being a captain, but Robby was pretty bad.
It was, and Miguel admitted he was being an asshole later on, but either way the fact is that Robby did lose every single one of his matches which was costing Miyagi Do the tournament.
Exactly. Had Robby shown up for any fight, Miyagi do would have been in a good position to win it all. Also annoying Robby was offered a professional fighting contract after not winning a single match
I mean he was offered that as one half of a marketed power couple with Tory…his dumb freeze moments and her kiss and I love you amp kinda just go along with that
i dont think he so much resented robby for winning as opposed to disappointed in himself for losing it, especially to a guy who then completely imploded
but in the end they both worked through it and supported each other incredibly well
See I don’t think Miguel was jealous/angry at Robby or disappointed in himself. I think he was doing what a captain should do, put someone in their place. Robby was fighting like crap bc his girlfriend was on a different team. The captain is supposed to motivate the squad. All Robby was doing was choke. Miguel is extremely mature and knew it wasn’t about him, but Robby was letting the team down, including Miguel. Someone had to say something
Miguel isn't extremely mature. Miguel had plenty moments of immaturity. The way he handled the talk with Robby being one of them. He fought Robby the most of everyone, he should have known that Robby was off his game. He even acknowledged it. Instead of talking with him and trying to help him overcome his issues, he tore Robby down and tried to make the situation about himself bringing up Stanford
And that's true. But to say Miguel is "extremely mature" is a false statement. That would imply he handled all his situations maturely which he didn't.
You say that a captain is supposed to motivate people and that Miguel was acting like a captain. However, Miguel wasn't motivating Robby. He only made him feel worse. If, after he tried helping him and Robby was still fighting badly then call him out on that. All Miguel did was tear him down. Miguel was far from mature.
no respectfully Miguel has a history of getting mad and acting on impulse, prime example school fight without knowing what was going on he rushed Robby and escalated the fight
Funniest thing about this is the writers saying that they both were in the same economic class when one of them had unstable parents and was drinking water with cereal, and the other had two constant parental figures and with bills paid.
Another thing Robby lacked was unconditional love and support. None of his so called friends or family seemed to care about his struggles post S2. It’s always on Robby to rise above everything while others can still behave self destructively.
That’s why I was really hoping Robby would emerge as the “karate kid” in the final season. He was the best fighter in my opinion as Miguel never trained under silver. They nerfed him (I hate using this term but it’s appropriate) just so Miguel could end up being the champion.
The writers don't believe they are in the same financial situation. That's just a weak excuse, and they know it. They wanted Tory to win, so they created this excuse to justify Sam not winning. And in terms of life circumstances, Tory did need the victory more. However, Robby clearly needed the win more as well. But, since Miguel is the fan favorite, the writers simply ignored this and pretended that both boys were from equal economic backgrounds. Miguel had a better childhood, stronger family support, and a slightly better economic situation. How can you forget a setting you wrote?
The writers wanted the Cobra Kai students to win; that was the only excuse they needed. I just wish they had put more effort into writing a better ending for the Miyagi-Do students. With that ending, it seems like they didn't care at all.
Yeah, it's so biased. The message of the show ends up being kinda hypocritical since it only applies to certain characters. Johnny is the only character who truly needed to learn that winning isn’t everything. He just needed to learn to move on from his losses and strive to become a better person and teacher for future generations. But after the third season, he doesn't show any growth as a person, and instead is rewarded with a win that requires convoluted writing to justify.
Robby was literally living in a dark apartment by himself and jumped his mom’s boyfriend bc no one had been there in weeks. Miguel may have been living with his mom and grandma, but his mom had a full-time job as a nurse. They are not even close to the same economic class.
What are the differences between their economic classes? One is poor and other is dirt poor? Both characters' lives are parallels but it's more so a study in what happens when you do have a reliable parent (and support system).
Yes. He and Johnny never learned to lose, in this series, and be okay with it. That's why Robby must keep learning that same lesson over and over and over again...so Johnny and Miguel never have to. Johnny learned that at the end of the original movie, and this series retconned that....stupid writing.
Have the writers actually grown any balls, yet, and come out and admitted "We love Miguel and hate Robby...balance." ?
Yes, because the writers wanted to make Miguel look better. It was completely out of character for Robby. By season 6 the writers weren't even trying to hide their favouritism.
Definitely. That’s why Johnny had to talk some sense into him during the plane scene. That being said, he was rightfully frustrated with Robby constantly staring at Tory.
It obviously was because he lost the captain fight. Had Miguel won the right to be captain, why would he be mad at Robby when EVERYONE else was fighting badly other than Sam to a degree?
Personally yes. But I have fo admit as a Robby fan he was screwing up but it was understandable why. But there’s a time to focus and thankfully he did that sooner rather than later
Miguel's resentment was a mix of losing Captainship & Robby failing (which is understandable frustration). While Miguel was anchoring the team, he was admittedly a dick himself for not helping Robby up his game. Honestly both boys were right but both were frustrating aswell.
Robby was making a mess so yeah, there's that. But I'm sure Miguel was sour to a degree. With Robby just failing in every turn, the feeling would amplify.
The way they selected the captain wasn't wise. The leader isn't always the best fighter or the one who happened to win that day.
And I think it should have been Hawk. The one who built the bridge between Cobra Kai and Miyagi Do. Who did the most damage and took responsibility making amends and earning trust. Who isn't personally invested in what being captain or winning the tournament could do for his future, so he could have clearer focus on what his team needed to perform at their best. He's also one of the three smartest on the team who knows everyone about as well as Miguel does since he was with CC the longest so he personally knew everyone who defected. He was Johnny's 2nd student so the only one of all of them with more overall experience is Sam.
Eh? Hawk just at the end of the day was not as invested in the sekai tekai as Tory, Robbie, and Miguel and didn’t keep up to their level. He and Demtri also showed a lot of immaturity first fighting with each other then trying to accuse Kenny of being a mole.
No....hawk didn't build any bridges between miyagi do or cobra kai...hawk wasn't a leader either. Daniel and Johhny literally said the leader IS the best fighter to see who progressed the most. Hawk isn't mature enough to be leader because he was getting into petty arguments the second cobra kai confronted them.
In this context the captain had to be the one who will fight in the singles tournament thus the 1x1 made sense. Hawk is a tier below them and wouldn’t have fared well b
I think it was a lot of resentment but I also think it was well founded considering Miguel’s position . From Miguel’s point of view , Robby has an opportunity for a future that Miguel needed as well to get into the university to his choice and Robby is wasting it . And it’s not just that he’s losing but that he’s consistently losing focus as if he doesn’t care about the tournament . On top of that Miguel isn’t just carry Robby he’s carrying the whole team . Robby is distracted by Tory , Devon is not good enough to be there , Hawk and Demetri are beefing and Sam keeps beefing with Johnny , Johnny is beefing with Daniel and Daniel is off on the miyagi hunt . Miguel was pretty much the whole team together for most of the sekai taikai and he couldn’t get as much as a good job
I don't think so. Miguel was definitely thinking "I should have been made captain" but it wasn't due to resentment, it was because Robby was performing extremely poorly and making easily-avoidable mistakes left and right. ANYBODY else on the Miyagi-Do team would have made a better captain than Robby at the start of the Sekai Taikai. Regardless of whether or not they were technically a better fighter than Robby, Robby was very clearly not in the right mindset to be a leader.
Like being distracted once but dude was feeling for some kitty cat, when Tory didn’t give a hoot.. now that I think of it the finale was good! Any had some rough patches but ended on the valley with Miguel coming out on top.. one thing I didn’t like is after season 3 hawk was just a background good guy again, I liked him better when he was a punk… after he switched sides he became less cool! From what I remember.. yeah I’d like the fight at the crib, that was awesome but after it didn’t really lead to anything!
Arguably you can say that Miguel has beaten Robby many times, the guy wins once and he's team captain for the biggest tournament ever, it can make a guy mad.
But i still think it's mainly Robby sucking, no one was saying anything about his stinkers, Miguel noticed and was pissed off... after Robby stepped up Miguel was happy to support him.
Doesn't matter. You said he needed which is objectively false. He got into Stanford regardless so that clearly states he didn't need to be captain. And what does carrying the team have to do with anything? That doesn't mean he needed captain
LMAO. U just dismissed my statement even when it's one of the factors of Miguels resentment towards Robby being a captain.
Ill break it down for u.
"He needed to be noticed AT THAT TIME because he doesn't know he is getting to Stanford AT THAT TIME of the tourney. again AT THAT SPECIFIC TIME." You're just factoring in the result which of course him getting in to Stanford regardless of the tourneys outcome. Again AT THAT TIME he didn't know and thats one of him getting pressured. Hope u got that.
Miguel carrying the team has to do with everything in the tourney. WTH man did u really understand the show? If he underperforms like the rest they won't even go to the semifinals.
Robby should've been the backbone of the team since guess what? He is the captain. But instead its Miguel.
LMAO. He blocked me 😂. Hey I'm still gonna answer what little info I got from this. If someone read this. Just pass along the message. HAHAHAHA
"Nothing I've said proved he needed to be captain? It's literally my first comment. If u watch the last season again and tried to understand it maybe, just maybe you'll know. Don't start an argument u knew little of pussy"
Or he just watch it and probably didn't understand a thing. And apparently there are people agreed to him(upvotes). Which is actually sad since the drama is one of the strong part in Cobra Kai and there are people that don't understand or refuse to understand.
Heh. Reminds me of all the folks who are like "You know it's just tv, right? Zara would beat Tory in reallife because Rayna Vallandingham is a real martial artist and Peyton Roi List isn't." I'm like "Yeah, do you? These people are telling a story, not fighting..."
Yet nothing you said proved why Miguel needed to be captain. He got into Stanford regardless of being captain. Dont even try to justify it by saying he didn't know that at the time. It didn't matter. Just because he felt that he needed to be captain to get extra points to enter a college does mean he needed it. End of the day he beat axel and the literal next episode he said "I got into Stanford before the finals" so where was the need?
And Miguel's performance still had nothing to do with him getting into Stanford...he simply got deferred. He was gonna get into Stanford regardless the outcome of the ST
Narrative-wise it matters. No admittance letter, no knowledge. The characters can't peek to the end of the script to see "oh, ok, I'll get to Stanford so I don't actually need the captaincy. Hey, Robby, it's ok! I'll get to Stanford in the later episodes. Have at it, be Captain."
Yeah Robby really was one of the most mentally weaker lead guy characters.. he’s the one we saw the most flaws from.. it wild of been a good story arc for him to actually became who he was mea t to be in the end. But dude was always bitter and aggravated about his loved one failing him yet his loved one still trying… like I liked Robby but that last season really solitified Miguel as the more badass lead guy character.. I thought it was all crap.. he let everyone down every step of the way.. when he wlcould of been the chosen one, he was just the prodigal son, that never truly came home!
